Job Title: Chemical Engineer
Location: 5950 North Course Drive, Houston TX 77072. US. Hybrid Schedule (1 day per week remote)
Description:
We're seeking a Chemical Engineer/Chemist to join our Research and Development Engineering Team at Houston M-I Swaco Technology Center (HMTC). In this role, the Chemical Engineer contributes to providing innovative and cost-effective solutions, involving the development or enhancement of techniques, procedures, or products. They play a pivotal role in planning, conducting, and evaluating approaches to meet project objectives in a timely manner.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in developing and formulating the chemistry of new fluids, along with a strong foundation in organic chemistry.
Responsibilities
Assist in identifying and organizing requirements and developing relevant product specifications.
Create and maintain product documentation. Provide user training as required. In collaboration with internal stakeholders develop product bulletins.
Analyze, design, develop and maintain products and assist in their commercialization.
Explain complicated chemistry issues to co-workers having no background in chemistry.
Complete lab work and transfer new technology to the field.
Working knowledge of design of experiments.
Design and develop products that exhibit sustainability improvements (lower carbon footprint, lower toxicity).
Design, implement, and execute laboratory tests, document results and develop internal and external customer presentations.
Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, results and specifications.
Assign, direct and review work of technicians and provide guidance to engineers.
Author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations. Share expertise via internal knowledge sharing platforms. Expand informal network throughout the organization.
Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets. Adopt new practices readily to develop innovative, sustainable and low-cost products.
Maintain familiarity with company technology, organization and business.
Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements as defined in the risk control matrix.
Requirements:
BSc degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or, advanced degree MS or PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering • 2-5 Years of experience in chemical product development as a chemist or a chemical engineer in a corporate environment.
Experience developing additives for drilling fluids, paints, coatings, or similar.
Ability to analyze chemical products, assess performance and areas of improvement
Preferred skills:
o Experience with Drilling Fluids
o Experience in polysaccharide derivatization.
o Experience with fatty acids and derivatives chemistry.
o Knowledge of surfactants and development of direct and invert emulsions.
o Experience with developing complex formulations.
o Structure-activity analysis for chemical additives
