Job Description:

JOB TITLE: Chemical Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical expertise, resourcing, and leadership to ensure that the Production System meets the desired plant and business output in terms of Delivery, Productivity, Safety, Quality and Cost.

• Identification and evaluation of process improvements or changes needed because of growth in volume and/or new technologies.

• Support of front-end loading and start-up tasks for capital projects in the Production System.

• Work with self-managed teams to identify needed improvements and reconcile diverse views to implement the solutions.

• Participate fully in area management processes.

• Interact with external technical groups (R&D, Product Group, Engineering, Safety/Health/Environmental, Maintenance, etc.) to accomplish Business and Site COTs (Critical Operating Tasks).

• Use engineering knowledge of processes, material and/or equipment to provide necessary technical expertise to the coatings manufacturing operation to maintain production performance and to restore process capability when the product or standard process is no longer safe, stable, and predictable or in control.

• Participate fully in various Safety and Quality audits as needed, e.g. PSM (Process Safety Management), RS-01 (Reactor Safety).

• Use analytical skills to help in troubleshooting process, equipment or instrumentation and control system issues and work on the resolution of them.

• Coach area operators and other personnel on existing as well as newly aligned technologies and products.

Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering.

• Experience with process improvement work both conceptualization and implementation. Experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to work directly with teams in a collaborative environment.

• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

• Ability to reconcile diverse viewpoints within teams and between teams.

• Ability to utilize data effectively to show performance and drive decision making.

• Ability to lead improvements in a flat organizational structure.

• Leadership skills to identify opportunities and act upon by effectively utilizing resources.

• Able to identify opportunities and act upon improving manufacturing costs, quality, productivity. Computer application skills with working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and Power Point).

• Consideration will be given to candidates who meet minimum requirements and who have demonstrated Six Sigma competency, especially Green Belt or Black Belt. If the successful candidate has not been trained in Six Sigma this will be required and certification will be achieved within one year of completion of training.

• Experience with PLC/DCS plant control systems a definite plus.

• Knowledge and experience with implementation of Process Safety Management, Quality systems and standards (e.g. ISO) is desirable.
