Job Description:

  • Must use and handle chemicals such as soda ash, Nitric and Sulfuric acids, Resorcinol, Sodium Sulfate, Magnesium Styphnate, Lead Nitrite, and other related chemicals and solutions. Identify, transport, and store explosive materials according to specified safety procedures.

    Operate and tend mixing kettles, drowning tanks, storage tanks, filters, disposable tubs, etc. to manufacture the explosive ingredients used in priming mixtures. Perform and maintain appropriate paper work and record keeping, maintaining inventory and BATFE requirements of licenses. Perform tasks such as reading and calibrating PH meters, moisture balances, and basic math skills to adjust solutions for proper makeup and other tasks needed to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

    Must be able to lift 40+ pounds. Combine various ingredients into premixes by weighing, sieving and blending raw materials according to specified formulas. Combine wet initialing powders, oxidizers, and fuel powders by use of a mixing machine from a remote control house to make wet priming mixtures.

    Identify transport and store explosive mixture according to specified procedure. Perform and maintain appropriate paper work and record keeping. Perform other task in associated area as needed.

    Employees must adhere to all explosive safety procedures at all times. This position requires a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Must complete a written aptitude evaluation and interview process.

Prior to assignment in an explosive area, employee must be examined by plant physician. This will include the requirements of the periodic physical plus EKG.

PLEASE NOTE: Persons assigned to this job are subject to certain restrictions under the Safe Explosives Act of 2002.

Prior to being placed in the assignment, successful bidders will be required to submit completed forms to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) for certification as an "Employee Possessor" under the terms of this act. Submission of this form will also result in a background check being performed by the BATFE to determine the employee's eligibility to possess explosives. Copies of the "Employee Possessor" form are available on the Lonoke Plant Intranet on the Human Resources page.

Responsibilities and Qualifications Mechanical Adjusters are responsible for adjusting, operating and repairing production machinery in the manufacture of ammunition. This includes operation of machinery as well as maintenance, repair, and adjustment of machinery, set-ups, and changeover procedures. Job duties include but are not limited to the following: * Monitor the quality of the operation's output on a regular basis; make adjustments necessary to keep the operation and product within specification. * Perform preventive maintenance and basic maintenance activities to the point where maintenance cannot be accomplished effectively and efficiently without the assistance of the Maintenance Mechanic. * During major repairs, overhauls, and set-ups, work with the maintenance mechanics and other trade specialists to assist and learn the more complicated mechanical processes. * Maintain a productivity level that ensures on-time delivery of the product to internal or external customers. * Participate actively in the Natural Work Team process in the department. * Monitor work area to ensure that all safety precautions are being taken; make sure area is kept neat and orderly; follow all established safety rules and procedures and report all safety hazards/issues or potential safety problems to supervisor immediately. Shift Information: Potential openings on the following full-time shift: Shift: Various with the majority being on the 11pm to 7:00am shifts. The first 6-8 weeks will likely be on another shift days or nights during week. STARTING WAGE is $20.08/hr (+ applicable shift premium) with step increases to top out at $23.25/hr. Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or GED is required (post offer verification will be conducted) 1+ years of on-the-job experience is required, with manufacturing experience preferred or equivalent technical degree. Demonstrated mechanical ability. Additional Requirements: Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old; able to pass a background check and pre-employment physical & drug screen; and pass required written testing. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. Physical Requirements: Standing and moving about for 90% of the time. Reaching, handling and fingering to fill hoppers, add material and make adjustments/repairs. Frequent lifting, moving, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Near vision for making fine adjustments and detecting quality defects and far vision for operations of fork lift or other mobile equipment. Must have normal color vision and normal depth perception capability. Climbing (ladders to fill hoppers), stooping, bending and kneeling (making adjustments, checking quality, etc.). Mental Requirements: High attentiveness for safety and detection of problems. Reading and math comprehension to understand and interpret quality information (SPC, charts, graphs, etc.), and to complete production reporting. Interpersonal communication skills to problem-solve and to function effectively as part of a work team. Flexibility to move between jobs and to handle many tasks simultaneously.
