BASIC FUNCTION:

Under supervision of the principal or designee, the cheerleading coach is responsible for coaching cheerleaders. The duties of this position involve a wide variety of responsibilities, including teaching cheers and dance and ensuring the safety of students. The cheerleading coach coordinates practice and develops a calendar with the certificated Cheer Advisor.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates, teaches and coaches appropriate cheers, dance and spirit routines for high school students.

  • Promotes safety in all cheers, dance and spirit routines at practice and athletic events.

  • Understands and enforces district administrative regulations relating to student discipline.

  • Understands and enforces CIF/NCS and DFAL rules and regulations pertaining to sportsmanship and behavior at practice and athletic events.

  • Notifies the principal or designee of violations of district administrative regulations, CIF/NCS and DFAL rules and regulations.

  • Maintains safe practice conditions for the cheerleaders.

  • Reports to the principal or designee unsafe practice or competition conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School graduate; A.A. degree in dance or physical education desired.

  • High school or college experience in cheerleading, dance or fitness.

  • CPR and First Aid Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment:

Indoor/outdoor environment - athletic facilities.

Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

Bending, jumping, kneeling, reaching, sitting, squatting or walking for extended times.

Seeing to monitor students.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment.

The Education Code requires that a criminal background check be conducted on all persons prior to employment by a school district to ascertain whether the applicant has been arrested or convicted of any crime. Conviction of certain crimes designated as a "violent felony" or a "serious felony", may disqualify a person from employment.
