Position Summary:

Essential Functions:

  • Promote trust and respect among associates.

  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the store.

  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the store and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.

  • Responsible for being visible, friendly, and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers.

  • Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.

  • Observe scheduled shift operating hours.

  • Receive accurate payment for merchandise; makes change; processes checks, credit and debit charges according to proper departmental procedures for paperwork and the performance of duties.

  • Understand the Point of Sale system, and handle various tenders, rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy.

  • Record the sale of items to the register by moving merchandise across the scan window, using a hand-held scanning gun or, if necessary, the 10-key pad.

  • Understand and adhere to the company's cash handling procedures and work honestly and effectively to control loss.

  • Understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items, such as Alcohol, Tobacco, Fireworks, and Videos.

  • Follow procedures to limit shrink such as, but not limited to: checking for bottom of basket, scanning all items to ensure proper balance on hand, avoid manual hand rings, and close the loop procedures.

  • Able to complete transactions in the time allotted to ensure productivity beach marks are met.

  • Report pricing discrepancies as directed by company policy.

  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.

  • Offer and/or mention to customers all company directives such as Kroger Personal Finance, fundraising requests, customer service surveys, fuel points.

  • Keep checkout area clean.

  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.

  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.

  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.

  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines.

  • Ensure that all current merchandising, customer service, cash control, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, associate and customer engagement rules are being followed.

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed checker training

  • Ability to handle stressful situations

  • Effective communication skills

  • Knowledge of basic math: counting, addition, and subtraction

  • Must be able to meet the minimum physical demands of the position

  • Must be 21 or older

  • Current alcohol sellers permit once employed

Desired Previous Job Experience:

The position performs plan review on off-site improvement plans and subdivision plans; performs complex technical and/or specialized work which requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills and knowledge of detailed or specialized activities; provides information in person or over the phone to the public or to County staff that requires the use of judgment and the interpretation of policies, procedures and regulations; explains and enforces provisions of County codes, applicable laws and regulations, and other policies and standards to potential applicants and the public. Plan Checker I: $50,024.00 - $77,521.60 Plan Checker II: $53,976.00 - $83,699.20 This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. The Plan Checker I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the probationary period (520 hours worked to 2,080 hours worked) and the training program, which is up to two (2) years, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Plan Checker II. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Plan Checker I - Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture or a field related to the work. Full-time experience as a plan checker, plan designer or inspector may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis. Plan Checker II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional experience in a combination of residential, commercial and industrial plan checking. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment. Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Reviews and examines plans and specifications for residential, commercial, industrial, public works and amusement and transportation device plans, specifications and related documents. Confers with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, property owners and others to give information regarding codes, regulations and procedures. Reviews calculations for completeness, code compliance and accuracy. Researches information confirm ownership, ascertain assessor's values, determine zoning area and other information; researches code provisions on difficult problems. Forwards plan packages to other departments and agencies for review; coordinates review with them and coordinates the plan checking process to ensure that all applicable standards have been met. Recommends necessary changes to obtain compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, solar, accessibility, energy and other codes and requirements; conveys this information to the individual submitting the plans and suggests alternative ways to meet the code requirements. Advises construction management and building inspectors and others regarding problems that may occur in the field. Provides services at a public counter to answer questions and approve minor plans. Maintains accurate records, logs and files of plans, plan review status and work performed. Monitors technical developments and legislation related to new materials and new methods of construction; recommends procedural or ordinance changes as appropriate. Prepares reports, correspondence and a variety of written materials. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a personal or County vehicle to visit work sites and attend meetings.
