Responsibilities

  • The Chassis Brakes Engineer is responsible for delivery of foundation brake systems and components. Responsibilities include the design and package of components, overall system performance, cost and quality

  • The engineer leads component and system design and development, validating and signing-off all key brake performance and attribute requirements

  • Running vehicle tests, bench tests for specific functions

  • Working with brake development engineers for refining functional characteristics of the brake components, system, features and the vehicle

  • The engineer manages supplier delivery and performance

  • Serve as a leader and representative of brake engineering to interfacing organizations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree

  • Experiences in functional engineering desirable, preferably chassis or automotive-related work experience (Ford, OEM or supplier)

  • Strong leadership skills inherent self-starter, self-motivated, with strong drive for results.

  • Project management skills - Capable of managing projects by looking both at the big picture objectives and at detail administration to achieve these objectives.

  • Strong oral/written communication skills to lead group projects, issue resolution, and management reviews

  • Able to work in unfamiliar and unstructured situations and succeed

  • Computer-literate. Proficiency in MS Office/Outlook: Excel; Word, PowerPoint, CAD (Catia / Team Center) exposure, etc.

  • Recognized in prior work assignments for demonstrated performance

  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering disciplines preferred: DVP&R, DFMEA, 8D, Process Controls, Reliability, and System Engineering Fundamentals

  • Ability to travel and support Ford Motor Company final assembly plants and supplier sites, when required, during project delivery

The VEV Chassis Engineering Sign-off Team leads validation and verification for various Engineering Signoff Gateways and Milestones in the Ford Product Development Process. Chassis Sign-off provides critical guidance and support Product Development Engineering teams in delivering robust Engineering Sign-off. Responsibilities * Lead Chassis physical validation deliverables for major program milestones such as Technology Development Completion (TDC), Preliminary Engineering Completion (PEC) and Final Engineering Completion (FEC) * Drive pre-test readiness, troubleshoot Design Verification (DV) issues, and provide requirement assessment documentation * Manage or support team actions including DV planning, sample availability, lab scheduling, pre-test paperwork and post-test assessments * Operate with exceptional integrity to deliver Global Product Development System (GPDS) gateway/milestones on time to established acceptance criteria * Drive global signoff integration by ensuring teamwork and collaboration at all levels and regions. * Self-motivated individual with passion to deliver results, drive to improve the current processes and develop new best practices * Deliver gateway program signoff for Chassis engineering on time and with quality * Determine program content that impacts Chassis DV by using program detail documents as well as communication with D&R and program management * Establish robust but efficient Chassis DV plans and set up electronic Ford Design Verification System (Efdvs/FEDE) according to those DV plans * Create pre-test documentation - currently Enhanced Laboratory Management System (ELMS) * Ensure proper test direction for DV, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) * Resolve and/or elevate all issues that jeopardize PEC/FEC sign-off * Understand procedures and requirements to assess comply/non-comply for areas of responsibility * Assess sign-off requirements for Chassis DV on time and with appropriate data in eFDVS * Work with Core Engineering and Test Operations to correlate requirements to customer needs, improve test method accuracy and efficiency, and support analytical tool development * Resolve post-test issues related to testing for multiple commodities: Suspension, Frame, Jacks, Wheel and Tire, Brake and Steering * Liaise with the Chassis development and prototype planning teams through vehicle delivery and ongoing F4T issue resolution * Support Open To Go (OTG) meetings to align Chassis Engineering with Test Operations * Generate, develop and implement prototype and bench validation efficiency actions Basic Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree * 3+ years of experience with Chassis D&R and/or development experience with a solid working knowledge of Chassis Components Preferred Qualifications * 5+ years of experience with Chassis D&R and/or development experience with a solid working knowledge of Chassis Components * Demonstrated proficiency in engineering disciplines and design verification processes * Capable of using related Ford systems – ELMS, eFDVS/FEDE, Global Prototype Inventory Requisitioning and Scheduling (GIPRS), Global Integrator, Teamcenter, Worldwide Engineering Release System (WERS), GPDS program timing and Advanced Vehicle Bill of Material (AVBOM) * CAD/Catia skills for accessing and utilizing Chassis Complete and FMVSS drawings * Proficient in utilizing MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) and SharePoint sites * Inherent self-starter with a demonstrated delivery of results with minimal supervision * Excellent organization, analytical and problem-solving skills including proven ability to multi-task * Strong oral/written communication skills to lead issue resolution and management reviews * Experience in program management ensuring that components and systems are developed according to official product development systems (note: GPDS for Ford) * Good collaboration skills and ability to work in a diverse environment with mechanics, engineers, technicians, technologists, and suppliers on a variety of projects * Able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to cover workload peaks, including flexible weekday hours and weekend work * Ability and courage to effectively communicate key issues and recommendations to senior management * Leverage political acumen and collaborate to effectively resolve and/or escalate issues for assistance Join our team as we create tomorrow!
