Job Summary
The Charge Nurse is responsible for providing first line supervisory oversight for a specific unit during a designated shift. Ensures that quality care is provided according to CHOC's policies and procedures, that patient flow/placement is efficient, and that daily staffing needs are met to assure the highest quality patient care, safety, and satisfaction. This role works collaboratively with staff, physicians, patients, and families to achieve the goals of the patient care unit. He/ She acts as a role model and resource, providing clinical leadership to staff nurses, unit assistants, and clinical associates. Will also provide support, guidance, and education for staff and assists them as needed. The Charge Nurse manages staff performance through coaching, counseling, goal setting, and yearly evaluations; demonstrates an understanding of how the unit aligns with the strategic goals of the organization.
Pay Range
Minimum $57.20 Midpoint $75.80 Maximum $94.40
Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
Experience
Required: Minimum two (2) years of experience in a clinical specialty setting.
Preferred: Four (4) years of experience in a clinical specialty setting.
Education
Required: Graduation from an accredited school of Registered Nursing; Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) (effective on all offers made after November 01, 2015).
Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing or related field.

Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advance Trauma Course RN (ATCN)
To be obtained within 1 year of hire (Effective on all offers made after June 1, 2023): Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN)
