Job Description

Chaplain Resident (Job Opening 455450) - Scope of Position: The position of Chaplain Resident provides an opportunity for education, training and service in pastoral care within the Department of Chaplaincy and CPE.

The Chaplain Resident is a student in the OSU Medical Center's accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program and a temporary full-time employee for one year during the specified timespan of their residency program. The position of Chaplain Resident is responsible for the delivery of pastoral care to patients, families, and staff within assigned areas, and providing rotating in-house oncall coverage during designated nights, weekends and holidays, while also participating fully in the CPE program. This combination of education, training and service takes place under the supervision of CPE Supervisors who are certified by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). The Resident Chaplain will report to the CPE Program Manager and to the Director of Chaplaincy and CPE, both of whom are CPE Supervisors certified by ACPE.

Position Summary:
The Chaplain Resident is authorized to visit patients, families, and staff, for the purpose of providing pastoral and spiritual care ministry according to Chaplaincy Department procedures.

The Chaplain Resident has access to appropriate medical records and documents his/her interventions in the medical record according to department procedure. S/he will participate in the Chaplaincy Department duties and procedures relevant to the role of Chaplain Resident. The Resident Chaplain will report to the CPE Program Manager and to the Director of Chaplaincy and CPE, both of whom are CPE Supervisors certified by ACPE.

The Chaplain Resident participates fully in the Clinical Pastoral Education program and is responsible to fulfill all expected educational duties and responsibilities.

What You Will Be Doing: * Direct pastoral care and counseling to patients, families and staff; using the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and the appropriate religious resources to ease anxiety * Short- and long-term personal counseling to outpatients and hospital staff * Emergency pastoral care after hours on a rotation basis. * Consultation to hospital personnel; aids medical and nursing staff in developing emotional care plans for patients and families; respond to physician requests for patient consults. * Lead support groups for hospital staff * Maintain consultative relationship with community; consults with pastors and churches to provide pastoral care * Asist in workshops for local clergy and participate in denominational activities. * Fully participate in Clinical Pastoral Education program Qualifications What Are We Looking For? * One unit of CPE * Master of Divinity (or in process) from an accredited seminary * Ordination and endorsement (or in process) * Strong communication and interpersonal skills for comforting interactions with patients, families, and hospital staff, external clergy * Ability to respond appropriately in sensitive situations.
