Chaplain, Job, Spiritual Care, Registry-Rotating, University of Chicago Medicine - Hyde Park

We're hiring for a Registry Chaplain for Spiritual Care in Hyde Park.

The Chaplain, Registry, provides spiritual care to patients, their families, and our staff, and functions as a resource to all staff concerning religious and spiritual matters pertaining to patient care.

Our clinical trained chaplains are available to support patients, family and staff. They listen to what is important to each individual and remain sensitive to differences in culture, race, religion and sexual orientation.

They are present to provide care for the patients/loved ones. This role will be about 2 12 hour shifts/week; a typical week includes one weeknight shift (8:30pm-7:00am) and one weekend shift (7:00am-7:00pm). Will need to have a flexible schedule and will be expected to work some Sundays.


Chaplain Education and Experience

Requirements:
  • B.A. from an accredited college or university or its equivalent.

  • Graduate work in a field relevant to spiritual care or healthcare chaplaincy, including, but not limited to, theology, sociology, family systems, world religions and belief systems, cultural competency, professional/medical ethics, communication, or the relationship of spirituality and health.

  • One unit of CPE is required. Additional units preferred.

  • CPE units in a hospital setting is preferred.

  • Able to take initiative on projects and tasks, able to use independent judgment/insight to solve problems, and be able to take responsibility for outcomes.

  • Demonstrates personal accountability, identifies own continuing education needs, and maintains current knowledge in their area of work.

  • Performs consistently within the code of ethics of the certifying bodies.

  • Previous experience preferred, as chaplain, pastor, religious leader or other recognized ministry utilizing pastoral and spiritual care skills.
