Summary/Objective
The Chaplain applies specialized pastoral care knowledge and interpersonal relationship skills learned in seminary and Clinical Pastoral Education to the direct spiritual care of persona facing values conflicts and spiritual concerns from the impending loss of life and/or new way of life. These persons are encountered on a hierarchy of need from death, acute critical illness, requests and referrals for visit and needs of hospital and medical staff.
Essential Job Duties

Integrates spiritual care into the life of the hospital by providing religious/spiritual resources to patients, their families and staff; as well as providing Chapel Services.
Visits patients and family members based on a hierarchy of need and, at request of patient, alerts patient's pastor and/or congregation of patient's admission to facilitate the religious/spiritual care of the patient.
Fulfills the role of teacher by facilitation of education of patients, their families, hospital staff and the community at large; as well as, provides guidance, consultation relating to instruments covered by the Texas Advance Directive Act as well as issues related to the Consent to Medical Treatment Act and teaches selected modules at the Faith Community Nursing Foundations Course.
Serves as a liaison between patient, family and hospital staff during illness of long-term duration, sudden critical illness or injury, the living-dying interval and lengthy or life-threating surgery and when needed provides counseling to patients, their families and hospital staff in situations involving ethical concerns or values conflict at the end of life.
Works with the Chaplain's emergency Relief Fund administering funding for medicine and durable medical equipment for patients without financial means.
Acts as a denominational liaison to the Baptist General Convention of Texas as needed, periodically attends the local Baptist Association Executive Board Meeting and represents Baptist Hospital within the religious community at large by preaching in their worship services.
Required Education and Experieince
Master's Degree in Divinity or Theology
Four Units of Clinical Pastoral Education from a certified Association for Clinical Pastoral Education training center.
Ordination by a Southern Baptist Church
1-3 years of related experience
