Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. THERAPY SERVICE

A. Screens and evaluates pupils referred to determine their needs for occupational/physical therapy as it relates to their educational program.

B. Renders direct treatment to pupils on a one-to-one basis as well as within small groups when appropriate.

C. Provides occupational/physical therapy consulting services to pupils, staff and parents when appropriate.

D. Provides monitoring services for students who have reached their maximum level of functioning within the limits of their disability but have the potential for progression or regression requiring periodic reevaluation of status.

II. MANAGEMENT OF THERAPY SERVICE

A. Handles records in a private and confidential manner.

B. Maintains and submits accurate records as required by law, Board policy, and administrative guidelines.

C. Adheres to established time lines and procedures.

D. Organizes time and work schedule effectively.

E. Uses grammatically correct English in verbal and written communications.

III. STAFF AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Is punctual.

B. Follows building and district rules and procedures in performing assigned responsibilities.

C. Collaborates with teachers and other special service personnel to provide appropriate opportunities for students.

D. Reports students' progress to professional staff and to parents/guardians.

E. Handles contacts with parents/guardians in an appropriate manner.

F. Maintains confidentiality concerning information about pupils and their families.

G. Meets with parents/guardians during scheduled conferences.

H. Develops a working relationship and establishes a system of communication with the pupil's physician and with other appropriate agencies

Qualifications

  • Current Illinois IDPR Occupational Therapist License
  • A degree from an educational program approved by ACOTE (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education), a national certificate from the NBCOT (National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy), or otherwise approved by IDFPR (Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation)

Salary/Benefits

  • The salary for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Federation of Teachers, which includes a different level of compensation for positions designated as "hard to fill." The full salary schedule and the Hard to Fill positions list are available on our website. The District gives experienced teachers up to 21 years of experience credit for service outside the District.

    New teachers may request up to $2,000 as a salary advance to help with relocation expenses or other needs. 100% of a teacher's contributions to TRS are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board currently pays 100% of a teacher's employee-only health, dental, and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. There are many opportunities for teachers to earn substantial additional compensation (stipends, differentials, extra duty pay, etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer.

  • Candidates who have graduated from baccalaureate programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) are placed on the MA lane of the CFT salary schedule.

  • Candidates who have graduated from master's programs accredited by ACOTE are placed on the MA+15 lane of the CFT salary schedule.

  • The District offers an additional $1,500 annual stipend for OTs who hold a national certificate from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.

  • Individuals hired into a 1.0 FTE position in the CFT bargaining unit after October 1, 2023 are eligible for a $1,500 Sign-On Bonus. Details can be found on the Human Resources page of our website.
