This is a non-tenured, board certified clinical faculty position which is responsible for supervision of didactic and clinical education in the specialties of internal medicine. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Clinical Education.Position Requirements:This position requires graduation from a COCA-accredited osteopathic medical school, active licensure and board certification by either the AOA or ABMS in Internal Medicine. The Chair must remain current in the field of Internal Medicine, maintain active board certification and licensure, and demonstrate proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting.Duties and Responsibilities fall into 4 categories. These are teaching, research, service, and administration: * Teaching * Provide rotation oversight including review of student evaluations by and of the clinical adjunct faculty and review of student rotation logs, as well as site visits. * Provide faculty development for clinical adjunct faculty in disciplines included in the Chair's department. * Assign grades for students in courses including clinical rotations, taking into account the student's preceptor evaluation, as well as post rotation examination results and small group participation where appropriate. * Organize small groups, including pre rotation modules, online training, rotation small groups, OSCEs, SOAP note grading, and other lecture participation as it becomes available. * Participate and encourage direct reports to participate in clinical education courses that require faculty participation throughout the AZCOM curriculum. * Develop, grade, and review post rotation examinations for core rotations for which no national standardized examination is available (i.e. critical care). * Facilitate remediation of students who fail either a rotation or course under the department of Internal Medicine. * Provide faculty development plan to the Associate Dean annually. * Update and review curricular objectives and syllabi for Internal Medicine and its related fields annually. Additionally, every three years report on curriculum for all courses in the department to the Curriculum Committee for its review. * Research and Scholarly Activity * Participate in clinical, basic science or educational research. * Participation is best documented through publication in peer-reviewed journal articles but may also be demonstrated through provision of lectures at local or national conferences, presentations at poster programs, NBOME question writing, or submission of applications for grants. * Service * Participate on University and college committees as assigned, including, but not limited to AZCOM Curriculum Committee, and AZCOM Clinical Chairs Committee. * Participate in Admissions as an interviewer. * Supervise students in simulated or actual patient care. * Represent AZCOM clinical faculty at educational meetings. * Administration*
  • Supervise and develop junior faculty in the Department of Internal Medicine. * Recruit and oversee hospital sites, ward-based rotations, and preceptors to assure delivery of AZCOM curriculum. * Assist preceptors with issues, development, and feedback. * Work with other chairs to support regional rotations sites for OMS III students, as well as work collaboratively with AZPA and AZPOD to help with their rotation recruitment. * Assist clinical and clinical adjunct faculty with advising regarding rank advancement. * Participate in development of the departmental budget each year and implement the budget through the fiscal year. * Do performance evaluation annually for all faculty in the Department of Internal Medicine, working with the Medical Director of the MWU Multispecialty Clinic to get performance feedback regarding faculty in the department who have a clinical role in the MWU MSC. * Update course syllabi annually for all clinical courses offered through the department and provide course outcomes reporting to the Curriculum Committee through course directors reporting to the Chair. * Assist with annual update of the Clinical Education Manual and the Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine catalog pages. * Provide career advising to students regarding residency application and placement in Internal Medicine specialties. * Create letters of assessment as may be required for students making residency application within the Internal Medicine specialties. * Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Clinical Education or the Dean.Midwestern University is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides graduate and post-graduate education in the health sciences.
