Job Summary:
Collects, summarizes and records a wide range of data on cancer patients for the purposes of statistic reporting and cancer research support. Performs case finding, abstract creation and follow up.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR): Required
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT): Preferred
Oncology Data Specialist (ODS): Required
Essential Functions:
Uses medical records and pathology reports to identify all cases seen, diagnosed and/or treated at the facility for inclusion in the cancer registry.
Obtains and summarizes core information for each case, including demographics, cancer history, diagnostic procedures and diagnosis, stage and extent of disease, treatment regimens and protocols, drug doses and reactions, disease response and adverse events. Inputs data into cancer registry using standardized medical codes.
Performs regular follow-up with all patients in the cancer registry to update conditions and status.
Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations. Ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies, including the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC).
Prepares for and attends tumor board meetings as needed; maintains tumor board meeting logs. Coordinates and promotes cancer conferences and lectures. Attends education conferences to maintain credentials.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
