Position Summary:

Develops and implements academic plans, safe activities, and participant satisfaction for YMCA of Florida's First Coast grant funded programs. Assumes responsibility for the welfare, supervision and safety of the children enrolled in the program.

Essential Functions:

1.Takes and maintains daily attendance for students.

2.Works collaboratively with lead teachers to provide appropriate instruction to meet the needs of students.

3.Provides weekly lesson plans.

4.Administers pretests, mid-year and posttests.

5.Maintains consistent communication with Lead Teacher on student performance.

6.Maintains positive relationships with Lead Teachers, Site Directors and TEAM UP staff.

7.Presents the YMCA mission and vision to staff, students, the school community and parents.

Qualifications:

1.Teaching Certification required.

2.At least two years professional classroom experience with children of preschool age.

3.CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

4.Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

5.Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

6.Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

7.Ability to work as a team member.

8.Strong personal relations skills.

9.Practices caring, respect, faith, honesty, and responsibility.



  1. Knowledge of general YMCA programs, philosophies, and objectives.

  2. Ability to work in and resolve conflict situations.

  3. Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  4. Flexibility, resourcefulness and high energy.

  5. Time management skills necessary to meet deadlines.


Must pass a Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Physical Demands:

Ability to plan and participate in activities.

1.25 Hours per day/Monday - Friday
