Job Responsibilities

MISSION

It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under limited supervision, provides classroom instruction for all students according to their individual needs and designs curriculum by SC State Standards and vocational curriculum competencies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establish appropriate long-range plans by identifying instructional, assessment, and management strategies.

Implements instructional activities that contribute to a positive environment where students are actively engaged.

Establishes, clearly communicates, and maintains appropriate expectations for student learning, participation, and responsibility.

Promotes student learning through the effective use of appropriate instructional strategies.

Provides appropriate and extended content for learners and maintains a constant awareness of student performances to guide instruction and provide appropriate feedback to students.

Maintain a classroom environment that encourages and supports student learning, instructional routines, and material, essential non-instructional tasks.

Assist with school-wide data analysis through solid leadership, and advance the mission and vision of the School District and Agency.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. Must be certified or eligible to be certified within the subject area by the State Department of Education.

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of educational program development and SC state standards.

Ability to conceptualize and implement innovative educational programs.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to work in teams and coordinate programs involving a multi-disciplinary approach.

Limited supervision; annually scheduled performance reviews.

Limited overnight travel.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
