Certified Surgical Tech with OR Experience. The Surgery Tech handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. They must have an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon in order to collaborate for optimum patient outcomes. They must have the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and be constantly vigilant at maintaining the sterile field.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must possess the following requirements:
Completion in surgical technology program
Certification as surgical technologist (CST) preferred
Must have high school diploma or equivalent
Maintains BLS certification
At least 1 year of recent operating room experience
Experience in scrubbing orthopedic, ENT and pain management procedures
Knowledge of sterile technique
Knowledge in all aspects of sterile processing department
Must be flexible with hours and days
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, employees, and the physicians. Preferences: Minimum 1 year experience in Orthopedic cases (Scopes, Totals, Sports Medicine)
Duties will consist of, but not be limited to:
Opens sterile supplies and prepares for each operative procedure.
Assists surgeons as scrub tech according to prescribed standards.
Sets up table, instruments and supplies according to the type of operation.
Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeons.
Maintains correct count of sponges and needles with Circulator.
Maintains aseptic technique at all times as dictated by accepted standards.
Assists in maintenance and care of specimens.
Assists in application of dressings, and in moving patients.
Decontaminates all equipment, instruments and supplies and cleans room as directed in procedure.
Maintain awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage or harm to personnel or patients.
Assists in inventory of supplies and equipment to assure availability and maintain set level and notifies purchaser to reorder.
Knows where all supplies are kept and is able to get or put away accordingly.
Assist with emergency procedure as required.
Provides and makes available all supplies for the next surgery day.
Performs additional activities and duties as directed.
Participates in training, orientation, in-service and staff development programs.
