To assist in the delivery of aspects of health care in a clinical capacity based on the needs of the client and standards of operating room care.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:
1.Fiscal

a. Assist anesthesia, surgeons, and associates with procedural related tasks

b. Monitor instrument/equipment for processing following manufacture/AMMI/AORN/AST standards or practice and guidelines.

c. Carry out established procedures: cleaning, decontaminating and sterilization.

d. Provide assistance in the order of priority and re-prioritizes as designated by the director or designee.

e. Alter own time schedule to adjust to changes in activity level of the department.

f. Judicious use of supplies.
2.Quality

a. Assist RN to obtain non-routine supplies for individualized care of clients without compromise of quality or loss of client care time.

b. Support client care by readily responding to and reporting on-going

intermittent and unexpected changes in delegated aspects of care.

c. Facilitate planning and adjusting provisions of patient care per request of anesthesia, surgeons and OR associates.

d. Consult and collaborates appropriately to revise preference cards, instrument sets and supply pull sheets as technological advances influence changes in delegated aspects of care.

e. Accept and delegate tasks appropriately and promote teamwork.
3.Patient Satisfaction

a. Collaborate with other health care providers regarding the plan of intraoperative cares, including instrument/supply set up prior to case.

b. Respond quickly and is able to work under stress related to multiple requests for supplies/instruments.

c. Maintain professional environment and keep noise to a minimum at all times

d. Exemplify excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, and physicians and co-workers.

e. Collaborate as a member of the operative team to enhance patient flow with changes to daily procedure schedules.
4.Patient Safety

a. Cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all instruments, metal goods, and equipment used for patient care.

b. Plan and prepare for surgical intervention based on individualized needs of each patient and respond to on-going, intermittent, and unexpected changes in delegated aspects of care.

c. Adhere to HIPAA and follow social media policy and adhere to standards of practice for instrument and supply sterility.

d. Verify double check system to verify medications/supplies that are passed to the sterile field.

e. Maintain just culture and report any breaks in sterile field and activities surrounding patient care.
5.Professional Development

a. Maintain workable knowledge of anatomy and instruments/equipment.

b. Share knowledge and skills with colleagues and others including orientation and cross-training.

c. Demonstrate leadership and be a resource for peer, precepts students and new employee when needed.

d. Identify professional needs and collaborates with management for learning opportunities for self and for the unit.

e. Participate in development and implementation of departmental goals and attend product practice change in-services.
6.Customer Service

a. Establish and maintain strong relationships with all customers, focusing on physicians, provider practices, anesthesia and public.

b. Provide a professional and quiet patient environment.

c. Practice AIDET (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You)

d. Promote commitment to co-workers, view all staff as part of an equal team and be approachable at all times, and maintain interdepartmental relationships

e. Be flexible with assignments, staffing needs and assigned shifts.

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

(CST) Currently certified by the Liaison Council of Certification/Association of Operating Room Technicians OR (LPN) Currently licensed by the Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as a Registered Nurse.

Nursing care guidelines are based on the ANA Code of Ethics (1), Indiana Nurse Practice Act (2), Nursing Process, and regulatory agency standards by which the RN provides patient care and shared leadership for the unit. Job Description Essential Responsibilities: 1. Fiscal Responsibility a. Uses resources and supplies efficiently; promoting cost saving and effective use of budget allocation. b. Manages time productively in the completion of duties and promotes cost saving through delegating assignments and use of proactive scheduling based on acuity and census. c. Attends product and practice change education and applies such to promote non-salary cost saving. 2. Quality a. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities including, but not limited to, meaningful use, value based purchasing, application of regulatory measures, work redesign and nurse sensitive indicators. b. Demonstrates critical thinking, ability to multitask, and provide complete documentation per unit and Hospital standards including critical situations and events. c. Practices accountably in accordance with the nursing process to provide optimum care, collaborate with the team, streamline processes, and elevate the patient experience. d. Applies evidence-based practice, maintaining knowledge of policy and standards of care. Makes appropriate patient care assignments based on nurse expertise, patient acuity and technical needs. 3. Community Service and Patient Satisfaction a. Represents the Hospital positively in provision of service to the community independently and at Hospital sponsored or community events. b. Participate actively in achievement of patient satisfaction through established Hospital practices of patient rounding, timely response to patient needs, service recovery, and displaying professionalism in actions. c. Maintains a therapeutic environment through noise reduction, appropriate use of electronic devices in patient care areas, and providing support and building relationships with healthcare students and their programs. 4. Patient Safety a. Incorporates safe patient care practices into daily routines including, but not limited to, fall prevention, safe patient mobilization, medication administration, and patient identification prior to care. b. Utilizes the event management system; reports near misses and participates in proactive processes to reduce error. c. Applies the principles of Just Culture, HIPPA, national safety standards and social media policy. 5. Professional Growth a. Demonstrates proficiency in charge RN role, mentoring, precepting, and provision of leadership in the department and Hospital. b. Maintains licensure and actively seeks opportunity for growth in such areas as certification, Hospital clinical advancement programs, advanced degree, and nursing shared leadership and council opportunities. c.
