Certified Surgical First Assistant- Heart Experience Required

JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Skill and proficiency in applying the technical skills of a surgical first assistant. Such proficiency is acquired through completion of an assistant program or proper training.

Knowledge of human growth and development necessary for assessment, range of treatment and care of patients appropriate to the patient#s age as acquired through formal education or proper training. Experience Knowledge of hospital policies\procedures, practices, techniques, and equipment as acquired through orientation. Physical Normal hospital environment.

Exposure to biological hazards.

Close eye work. Hearing of normal and soft tones.

Distinguish smells.

Distinguish temperatures by touch and proximity. Frequent exposure to fumes, odors and water.

Lifting up to 100 lbs.

Carrying up to 40 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 350 lbs.

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching. This is a safety sensitive position. Please see the St.

JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the surgeon, responsible for providing direct and\or indirect patient care including but not limited to: ensuring proper positioning before case begins, assisting surgeon intraoperatively, perform closure of superficial wounds (subcutaneous layers and skin) under the surgeons direction and supervision and perform closure of deep layers of tissue. Also may be included is the following ,manipulate or remove tissues, implant surgical devices or drains, suction the surgical site, place catheters, clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue, and apply dressings to surgical site.

Incumbents are subject to overtime and callback as required by the hospital. Assists the surgical team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for an assigned group of patients.
