Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position (2-3 sentences)

Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Functions as the scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by: assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure. Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instrument for the procedure. Performing surgical counts with the circulating RN according to policy. Assisting with placement of sterile drapes. Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure. Maintains an organized sterile field and ensures the sterility of the field by taking corrective action as needed. Maintains aseptic technique. Retrieves and collects specimens and labels those specimens appropriately and correctly.

  • Provides complete case preparation and has knowledge of special instruments, supplies, and equipment needs to the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Demonstrates knowledge of patients' rights and responsibilities according to the patients age and understanding. Demonstrates understanding of patients Advance Directives.

  • Cleans and prepares instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination area. Holding room. Assists with post procedure cleaning of the operative or invasive procedure room and preparation of room subsequent patients.

  • Displays and promotes teamwork. Demonstrates flexibility regarding unit/area staffing and scheduling needs. Maintains personal grooming and attire consistent with policy. Pursues professional development and personal development. Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities.

  • Promotes cost containment efforts and performance improvement initiatives. Participates in financial accountability by utilizing resources in a cost-conscious manner. Participates in all patient safety care measures.

Vocational/ Technical Degree

Specialty/Major:

Graduate of an accredited surgical technology training program or equivalent experience

Certified Surgical Tech (CST); BLS

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

Up to a minimum of one year perioperative experience preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word,)

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

LPN with surgical experience may apply.

Combination of post-secondary education and experience in lieu of a degree.

Under the direction and supervision of a radiologist/physician performs all procedures within the CT section of the Department of Radiology. Also performs general radiographic examinations as required. Observes all radiation safety guidelines and performs any other duties which assist in the provision of quality patient care according to the mission and values of the health center. Essential Functions * Performs CT imaging examinations, intravenous contrast injections in accordance with hospital guidelines and ensures safety to the patient, public, and self. Prepares equipment and scanning area for patient procedures. Transport or escort patients to and from CT area. Keeps areas stocked at all times and room clean. Technologist cleans equipment per departmental policy after each patient use. * Performs all clerical duties needed to assist in the patient care process and demonstrates proper documentation of all patient care. * Operates and maintains equipment used and records all maintenance in log books, performs quality control testing as required by department quality assurance plan/coordinator * Ensures radiation safety to the patient, public, and self in conjunction with ODH and JC requirements. Educates patients and/or family member to procedure and any other educational requirements. * Maintains competencies of a Radiologic/CT Technologist as required by department, state and federal guidelines. * Adheres to work schedule, and schedules PTO time off per departmental policy. Will be available for rotating emergency call, while also possibly being asked to cover at other facilities within the Mercy Health Youngstown market.Attends departmental staff meetings and in-services as required. Adheres to all - established CareTIME / HR policies. * Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department. Maintains ethical relationships. May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures. May assist in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely employed. Assist others in the department, requests assistance when necessary and demonstrates a team approach to patient care.
