Reach Cyber Charter School (Reach Cyber), a Pennsylvania Connections Academy school, is a tuition-free, public cyber school serving students in grades K-11 statewide during the 2017-18 school year. The school will add one high school grade per year, ultimately serving students in grades K-12. Reach Cyber offers a variety of academic pacing options for students including a traditional school year option, a year-long school year option and an accelerated option. Reach Cyber is authorized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school utilizes the Connections Education program. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED.
Position and Responsibilities:
Working with Reach Cyber Charter School in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, and serving the eastern part of the state, the School Nurse will provide a variety of services to students. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collaborate with other school disciplines, agencies, and families to plan and implement health service and health promotion activities.
Oversee school health programs and services.
Promote, facilitate, and support, for children within the school system, the need for quality and comprehensive care and services that are community-based, family-centered, and culturally competent.
Identify and refer high risk children to needed services, including those presenting signs of suspected child abuse and neglect.
Identify and assist children and families in need of obtaining a primary care provider.
Participate directly in multi-disciplinary team evaluations and individual education program meetings for exceptional students with medical or developmental problems.
Participate in the Student Assistance Program providing interventions and support for students referred with substance abuse and mental health problems that interfere with their success in school.
Participate in the evaluation of school nursing services, including self-evaluation, auditing of school health records and peer review.
Promote a safe and healthy positive school environment, including adherence to all applicable state and federal health and safety regulations.
Act as an educator or resource person to facilitate learning of positive health and wellness behaviors for students, staff, and parents.
Promote and educate students to assume responsibility for managing their own health care.
Participate in the investigation and control of diseases and injuries among the school population.
Provide and document nursing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
Provide and document physical and dental assessments and mandated screenings.
Appropriately delegate and supervise ancillary staff in the performance of procedures and care.
Provide crisis intervention.
