Job Summary / Purpose
Assists physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel incaring for diagnosing, and treating patients with cardiopulmonary deficienciesand abnormalities by applying therapeutic, preventive, and diagnosticprocedures.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Administerstreatments and medications which promote pulmonary hygiene, improve pulmonaryfunction, and improve respiratory status.
Evaluatesand ensures proper maintenance of airways and patient ventilation.
Implementsoxygen, gas, and humidity therapy. Maintains oxygen and humidity devices andemergency equipment.
Performsoximetry, safely obtains blood samples, and performs blood gas analysis;verifies accuracy of results.
Performspreoperative assessments of patients' respiratory status; provides instructionon prevention of postoperative complications.
Setsup, monitors, and maintains invasive and noninvasive ventilatory andoxygenation devices; recognizes and corrects malfunctions or inappropriatesettings.
Participatesin resuscitation efforts and other emergency medical treatments (based uponlevel of training).
Demonstratescompetent and safe procedures in obtaining and handling sputum specimens.
Stockssupplies, assembles crash boxes, prepares ventilators and other equipment forimmediate use; maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Other duties as assignedby management.
Required Education for Staff Job Levels
High school diploma or GED
Required Licensure and
Activelicense to practice Respiratory Care through the Board of Respiratory Care(KBRC) required; CRT credentialed from the National Board of RespiratoryCare, BLS, per Process Levelrequirements on ACLS, PALS, etc.
