The Certified Project Manager will support Carilion's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities. Basic job functions include:
Work independently assuming primary responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating, and delivering project management activities through the entire project life cycle (from initiation to hand off to customer) that are broad in scope.
Serve as a centralized, system-wide project management resource for the Chief Administrative Officer and other Executive Vice Presidents
Manage and coordinate multiple, complex project plans, including implementation schedules and resource estimates, for system level project management.
Achieve project objectives and completion on time, on budget, and in conformance to project management methodologies and standards.
Have strong business acumen with the ability to work with people from diverse functional or technical backgrounds and to build relationships across the organization.
Significant job responsibilities include:
Facilitate problem-solving and decision-making activities within the scope of the project and change management process, taking reasonable and prudent actions to accomplish agreed upon project objectives under minimal direct supervision.
Establish and maintain continuous communications with all project stakeholders to ensure thorough needs assessment, evaluation, and prioritization of efforts.
Communicate project information and status to committees, project sponsors, department leadership, and executive leadership as required to receive approval, project direction, and other input.
Create, monitor, and update project budgets.
Work with project stakeholders regarding changes to project scope, assessment of possible constraints, and identification of innovative approaches to project requirements.
Provide direction for clients, staff, peers, and vendors to resolve problems and difficulties within a given project.
Facilitate necessary internal and external meetings and prepares necessary status reports to ensure project tasks are being completed in a timely fashion.
Develop standards and project methodologies for the department.
Provide leadership to project management focused roles across Carilion as needed and assist in their education and development.
Prepare, maintain, and submit management reports (progress reports, time recording, and escalations).
Knowledge and application of the principles and execution of organizational change, including 'hard' technical and quantitative and 'soft' interpersonal and social dimensions of change.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skill interacting with colleagues individually and collectively, in settings which may present substantial challenges.
Maintains significant capacity to manage competing objectives, to prioritize, and to communicate information in clear and unambiguous terms to leadership and project team members.
Communicates clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, using technology appropriately to meet the needs of the intended audience. Communicates with clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrates innovation and flexibility in problem solving with cross-functional teams.
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or Health Management preferred.
Experience: 5 years of project management experience, preferable in healthcare or other business setting.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: PMP certification is required within one year of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of Project Management methodologies and best practices. Goal orientation and action-focused, pragmatic and self-disciplined, good at project planning, organizing, communication, team motivation and delegation. Process orientation with strong strategic planning skills and creativity. Strong problem solving skills and inherent decision making ability. Strong dedication to deliver quality customer service in a timely manner. Good human relations, diplomacy, and oral/written communications skills in technical and non-technical areas. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Power Point.
