GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
Working under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager. All technicians are responsible for working in various workstations. Responsibilities that technicians have may include; reception, drop-off, data entry, adjudication, robot automation, filling prescriptions, answering phones, pick-point will call system, pick-up area and point of sale, return to stock, mailing medications, checking expiration dates on medications, maintaining inventory, ordering drugs and supplies, return expired or unwanted drugs, providing support to the pharmacists and assisting in other areas as needed. Technicians must maintain their state license, continuing education requirements and national certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technician Responsibilities:
Works pharmacy manager to meet area specific goals and goals of the department
Greets patients at the drop-off window and obtains proper identification and allergy information
Provides coverage at the pick-up window, obtains 2 forms of identification.
Works with automated dispensing machine
Works the pharmacy insurance adjudication queue
Manages and triages incoming telephone calls and distinguishes issues requiring pharmacist judgment
Fills prescription orders
Processes prescriptions through the pharmacy software system
Files paper prescriptions
Contacts providers for prior authorizations
Resolves problems and adheres to customer service standards
Escalates issues to supervisors as needed
Attends area specific staff meetings
Assists with area specific projects as needed
Monitors expiration dates on stock medications Monitors current inventory and participates in annual inventory process.
Alerts supervisor of any inventory issues
Orders medications and supplies from wholesalers and/ or vendors
Assure that adequate communication is maintained between staff for continuity of service.

Assists in weekly inventory of controlled substances and controlled substance records and documents as appropriate.

Uses exceptional communication/customer skills to resolve issues and maintain excellent working relationships with others (including physicians, nurses, pharmacy personnel, and others).
QUALIFICATIONS
Spanish speaking preferred
High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Valid Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician License required
National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) required
