Certified Pharmacy Technician#(Meds-To-Beds) A Brief Overview Performs various technical functions and activities relating to preparing, packaging, drug distribution, record-keeping of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. What you will do 1. Provides assistance and performs technical pharmacy services under supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Packages and appropriately labels all dosage forms used in the pharmacy by using appropriate pharmacy packaging, counting and labeling equipment. Documents medication orders. Maintains required prescription/medication and other department records. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain clinical competency as required to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and clinical services. 2. Prepares and fills prescriptions and medication orders, maintaining appropriate legal and departmental records. Reads physician#s prescribed medication orders specifying name, quantity, strength, frequency and method of administration of drugs and other pharmaceutical products. Selects the medication from pre-packaged, or unit dose stock and counts the prescribed quantity. Places the drug in appropriate patient medication drawer/bin. Presents filled order to the Pharmacist for review. Post charges into computer system from the medication administration record and other charge documents. Collects appropriate payment/voucher from patient to cover cost of discharge medications prior to bedside delivery. 3. Operates computerized data systems. Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Pulls order entries from inbound and adds to Meds-to-Beds spreadsheet. Adjudicates claims and add insurance to patients# profiles. Utilizes computer and related equipment to enter and retrieve information. 4. Receives, transports and stores necessary pharmacy-related items to and from pharmacy areas as well as to and from other hospital pharmacies and nursing units as assigned. Packages all verified orders for delivery to beside. Scans all completed orders into the tablet for delivery signatures. Receives payments and signatures from patients and/or patient#s nurse and completes all transactions at the register before delivering to the floor. 5. Provides assistance and facilitates pharmacy services under supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Identifies patient using three identifiers (Name, DOB, Address). Uses a tablet to facilitate a two-way video call between the patient in the hospital room and the pharmacist in the pharmacy to provide education. Receives signature from patient or approved caregiver to complete delivery transaction. 6. Maintains a safe and orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the pharmacy and nursing areas and maintains a clean and neat work area. Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner. Cleans and maintains all pharmacy related equipment. Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor. 7. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). 8. Works effectively and serves as intermediary between patient care units and pharmacy; answers calls and accepts requests; collects and delivers medication orders and any other items as assigned. Interacts and communicates in a customer responsive and courteous manner and promotes patient/customer satisfaction. Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement activities. Communicates with nurses to check on patient#s discharge status, informs nurses and patients of their copay prior to delivery of medications, and assists with managing bedside calls and texts. 9. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment to minimize risk to patients and staff by complying with all safety/risk management policies and procedures. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection control standards. 10. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in performance improvement activities. 11. Provides support to pharmacy and other ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation and supervision of students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training. 12. Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday to provide continuous pharmacy coverage as required. Qualifications Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent education Required PHAR-C
Certified Pharmacy Tech Current documentation as Certified Pharmacy Technician and license to work in state of TN as Pharmacy Technician. Required At least 1 year experience Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of a Pharmacy Technician program or one (1) year previous experience as Pharmacy Technician Required Physical Demands Standing
