We are seeking a Peer Recovery Support Specialist to join our team.

Earn $21.32/hour.

Position Details

As a member of the Forensic Assertive Community Treatment Team, the Peer Specialist acts as a team player and shares in the responsibility of carrying out rehabilitation and support functions and assisting in treatment, substance abuse services, education, support and consultation to under the clinical supervision of staff with professional degrees. The Peer specialist will serve as a role model and advocate in the areas of entitlements, self-efficacy, empowerment, and daily activities.

  • Coach program participants in developing skills to achieve recovery goals and maintain wellness.

  • Share personal recovery experiences while respecting each individual's unique journey.

  • Participate in team meetings and advocate for a recovery-oriented perspective.

  • Keep supervisors informed of challenges, progress, and accomplishments of individuals.

  • Initiate and complete Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and support activities of daily living (ADLs).

  • Provide person-centered services, including comprehensive goal planning and service coordination.

  • Implement, evaluate, and revise individual treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team.

  • Offer individual and group supportive interventions and symptom management.

  • Liaise with community agencies and families to coordinate treatment.

  • Educate and support individuals' families while advocating for their rights and preferences.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and maintain accurate documentation of individual progress.

  • Provide crisis intervention as needed, ensuring immediate adjustments to treatment plans.

Our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model supports individuals with serious mental illnesses who may not have experienced success or haven't found effective support within traditional outpatient programs. We offer tailored services emphasizing relationship-building and active involvement in enhancing functioning and symptom management.

Services involve weekly home visits, provided either in individuals' residences or within the community, utilizing personal vehicles for client transportation and community-based tasks.

  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification. Consideration may be given to candidates who complete 72 hours of peer support specialist training and certification within the first year of employment.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must be or have been a recipient of mental health services for serious and persistent mental illness.

  • Clinical experience working with adults with severe mental illness preferred.

  • Valid VA Driver's License and access to own vehicle.
