Position Serves Molalla River School District

JOB GOAL:
This position implements intervention programs for children with physical disabilities both individually and in small groups, as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
Associate Degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program.
Certificates as determined by the District including current certification as established by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Current Oregon Occupational Therapy Assistant license.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with e-mail programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides occupational therapy services and treatments in areas of fine motor, oral motor, adaptive and clothing management.
Assists students in developing hand skills and fine manipulations of objects.
Assists students with feeding to include management of cup/spoon/fork, safe eating skills and treatment activities to include increasing or decreasing mouth tone.
Assists students in use of computer software programs, hardware and technological devices such as keyboards.
Fabricates materials as needed.
Assists students in learning to dress and undress themselves.
Maintains detailed records of treatment, observations and progress of each student.
Attends and participates in team meetings when appropriate.
Attends Individual Educational Plan meetings, workshops, staff development classes, seminars and other meetings for continued professional growth as directed.
Assists specialists (OT, PT, SLP, Vision) with selection of appropriate equipment/devices for use with students.
Completes necessary paperwork and maintains accurate records and files of all equipment loans and repair orders.
Provides on-site technical assistance on adaptive equipment/assistive devices as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
Keeps equipment in good working order.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Other duties may also be assigned.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Works well with others. Focuses on solving conflict; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others' ideas; and contributes to building a positive team spirit. Works well in the presence of children.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING
REQUIRED:
Possess and maintain a valid First Aid card if required
Current Oregon Occupational Therapy Assistant license.
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The work is generally performed in small groups or one-on-one in a classroom setting. Travel to various sites may be required.
