Position Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Department/Section: Exceptional Student Services

Supervisor: Director of Exceptional Student Services

Hourly Rate: $24.21 - $26.56/hour (depending on experience)

Pay Grade: Licensed Professional Salary Schedule

Schedule: 37.5 hours/week (7.5 hours/day x 5 days/week); 9 month calendar; Benefits offered; Arizona State Retirement System

  • This position is being posted in the event that a .80 licensed Occuptional Therapist is not hired.

Duties:

  • Under supervision of occupational therapist, provide OT services to students and other duties as assigned.

  • Participates in the assessment of fine motor, perceptual motor, sensory motor and oral motor function.

  • Determines therapeutic goals in conjunction with the occupational therapist.

  • Participates in IEP conferences.

  • Utilizes the team approach in working with therapists, teachers, parents, aides, and attendants.

  • Adheres to rules and regulations.

  • Provides intervention services to students as established through the IEP.

  • Consults, instructs and assists classroom teachers, aides, and attendants regarding positioning and handling, intervention programs, and their utilization.

  • Participates in therapeutic feeding.

  • Assists in administrative duties (written records, reports, schedules).

  • Assists in determining and meeting students' adaptive equipment needs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Has knowledge of child development stages, lifting and transferring, and handicapping conditions in children

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. Frequent to constant bending, squatting, standing, reaching, sitting; extensive walking, kneeling, crawling, stooping; occasional climbing.

Qualifications:

  • Current State of Arizona Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) License required

  • Fieldwork experience in pediatrics with school-based experience preferred.

(Substitute Teachers and Substitute Aides are not eligible for in-district postings) Position Title: Licensed Occupational Therapist/ Extended School Year (ESY) Department/Section: Exceptional Student Services Supervisor: Cherise Hovis, ESY Coordinator SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: The Extended School Year (ESY) Program is designed for Special Education students meeting specific criteria to be referred to this program on their IEP. Therapist will provide instruction specific to each student, based upon goals identified on the student's IEP. The ESY Program for staff runs from Monday, June 3 to Thursday, June 20, 2019, no Friday classes. Staff hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Employees are paid on a time card at $29.80 per hour. All positions are based on student enrollment figures and staff may work between 1 and 4 days per week. Staff work-day/set-up is Monday, June 3. Students attend from 8:30 am to 11:45 am beginning June 4. TYPICAL TASKS: These examples do not include all possible tasks in this position and do not limit the assignment of other related tasks in any position of this class. * Review individual student's IEP and identify their individual OT goals to be addressed during ESY. * Plan OT therapy sessions and activities that will address the goals identified for these various students. Implement these sessions/activities to support the student's individual IEP. * Set up schedule of OT services for those students requiring these services as well as inform teachers of the schedule. * Work with and direct any paraprofessional who is assigned student(s) receiving OT services to help assist in achieving the specific goals as noted on the student's individual IEP. * Use the Computer Lab to report the necessary Medicaid documentation for services that are identified on the student's IEP which are reimbursed by the Medicaid System. * Provide a progress report (standard form provided) at the end of the ESY Program to be sent home to the parent/guardian as well as a copy provided for the student's file at the school site and the District Office. * Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed Occupational Therapist Position Description: The ESY Occupational Therapist position will require the standard certifications needed for these positions throughout the regular school year.
