Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to deliver occupational therapy services to patients in their homes. Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist (OT) and the Director of Clinical Services/Clinical Manager, you will help patients achieve their highest level of function and independence in daily activities.
Responsibilities: Adhere to established Agency policies and procedures. Help improve or minimize residual physical disabilities, enhancing the patient’s ability to perform daily tasks. Assist patients in returning to an optimal and productive level of living based on their individual capabilities.
Collaborate with home care personnel in developing and implementing patient care plans. Perform all occupational therapy procedures as prescribed by the physician and under the guidance of the OT. Consult with the OT regarding any changes in patient treatment or care plans.
Educate patients and families on home programs and fine motor exercises. Participate in inservice training and, if assigned, present inservice programs to Agency staff. Contribute to Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities as directed.
Attend patient care conferences to discuss and review patient progress. Prepare medical records and update care plans during each patient visit in compliance with Agency policies. Carry out services as delegated and supervised by the OT.
Assist in the preparation of clinical and progress notes. Support patient and family education, ensuring they understand the prescribed care. Perform maintenance therapy services under a maintenance program, as directed by a qualified therapist and within the scope of state licensure laws.
Working Environment: Primarily works indoors in Agency offices and patient homes. Requires travel to and from patient homes.
Job Relationships: Supervised by: Occupational Therapist (OT) and Director of Clinical Services/Clinical Manager Risk Exposure:
High risk Lifting Requirements: Ability to engage in physical activity, moderate lifting, and extensive bending, standing, and lifting during therapy sessions. Requirements: Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program recognized by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (AOTA). Certification maintained by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Currently certified in the state(s) where practicing.
Licensed or otherwise regulated as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the applicable state, unless licensure does not apply. Two (2) years of experience preferred. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a strong desire to contribute to patient well-being.
