Minimum Qualifications
1.Associates degree in Occupational Therapy in order to acquire knowledge of occupational therapy treatment and techniques.
2.Current license to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Michigan.
3.Initial certification or eligibility for certification if candidate is a new graduate, with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
4.One year of experience in a clinical setting strongly preferred.

Skills Required
1.Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians and other hospital staff regarding patient care.
2.Basic knowledge and skill in common Occupational Therapy practices and procedures.
3.Ability to very frequently (51 to 80% of work time) stand, sit, balance, stoop, kneel and reach to position and treat patients; lift, position and transport patients during treatment (very heavy - 60 pounds); and push and pull while standing/moving to operate and transport equipment (medium 20-30 pounds).
4.Visual acuity to observe patient response to treatment (i.e. sweat, expression, dilation of pupils); ability to determine fine discriminate detail to read equipment gauges and on-line computer; manual dexterity to operate equipment.
5.Sensory ability to distinguish hot and cold during patient treatments.

VIEW JOBS 2/7/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-07T00:00 Summary Description Under general direction and in accordance with established policies/procedures, provides direct patient care by administering specified therapeutic evaluations and implementing routine treatment/home care programs. Assists Occupational Therapists, as required. Participates in program development and education activities. 1. Under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist, evaluates patient and assists in administering standardized tests and developing/implementing therapeutic treatment programs to maximize functional potential in areas of self care, upper extremity skills and development. Monitors patient response to treatment and modifies treatment as indicated. Recommends termination of services to Occupational Therapist when appropriate. Conducts established treatment program designed to enhance motor, sensory, perceptual, cognitive, intra and interpersonal skills of the patient. 2. Documents treatments and maintains service related records as directed by Occupational Therapist; assures that notes are co-signed by supervising therapist. 3. Performs individual patient training in functional daily living skills, including hygiene and kitchen safety. Assists with instruction in use of adaptive equipment; plans and leads treatment groups; and promotes patient independence and productivity. 4. Consults with and reports to other health care professionals regarding individual patient's needs to provide an interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation. 5. Instructs families in home treatment programs referring to community based programs and school personnel when necessary and with the approval of the Occupational Therapist. 6. Participates in chart rounds, admission and discharge conferences, family conferences and team development conferences. 7. Checks condition of equipment on a regular basis, reporting problems and safety hazards to supervisor. 8. Facilitates the clinical training of COTA students and evaluates their progress. 9. Maintains current knowledge of occupational therapy practice through readings, attendance at meetings and seminars, and involvement in professional organizations.
