WSi is seeking a CNA to work 8-hour shifts in a group home. This is a 6-week full-time contract with the possibility of becoming a full-time position.

Requirements:

Must have one (1) year of experience/work history.
Must have two (2) great references.
Able to pass a background check and drug screen.
Must have a current CPR American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Card.
Must have a proof of current TB placed within the past 12 months.

Our department has 27 beds and we specialize in respiratory, infectious disease, endocrinology, diabetes, wounds, gastroenterology, med/surg tele and surgeries of all kinds. We also take overflow from all areas and have opportunity to develop a varied skill set. POSITION SUMMARY Performs duties and tasks that assist the caregivers and promote effective departmental functioning.# Direct patient care functions are under the direction of the RN. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Effective 4/1/15 CNA certification or equivalent certification is required.# Equivalent certifications include: EMT, MA, Military Medic or completion of 1st year of nursing core classes (not prerequisites for nursing school).# PCAs hired prior to 4/1/15 will be grandfathered in and will not be required to complete CNA certification. BLS Certification required within conditional period. Knowledge, Skill and Ability 1.##### Basic knowledge of asepsis and universal precautions 2.##### Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies 3.##### Physical and mental stamina to perform job duties 4.##### Able to take directions from multiple staff and demonstrate the ability to set priorities Experience Hospital or other health care experience preferred ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Communication and Accountability 1.##### Routinely demonstrates ability to set priorities in order to complete the workload.# Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift. 2.##### Communicates problems to the primary nurse or charge nurse promptly.# Asks questions to clarify misunderstandings.# Requests assistance from appropriate personnel in the event of an unusually difficult situation. 3.##### Offers assistance and provides direction to visitors, patients, physicians, and families in a concise, informative manner, maintaining a positive and courteous tone. 4.##### Reports off at the end of the shift or when leaving the department. 5.##### It is the expectation that all care providers document accurately and in real time, utilizing the electronic medical record within their department. Maintains Safe and Pleasant Environment 1.##### Places call light within reach of patient. 2.##### Places be in low position with brake on after making bed (unless post-op bed). 3.##### Maintains siderails in up position as indicated. 4.##### Assists in preparation of patient rooms and admission and transfers. 5.##### Orients patient to use of bed, call light, television, and telephone. 6.##### Tidies patient rooms and over bed tables by removing used and unneeded items. 7.##### Tidies non-patient care rooms as needed. Meals And Nourishment 1.##### Passes warm wash cloths prior to breakfast. 2.##### Distributes drinking water and snacks to patients.# Maintains supply of cups/straws in patient rooms and/or at patient bedside. 3.##### Distributes and picks up trays in timely fashion. 4.##### Assists in setting up meal trays and feeds appropriate patients. 5.##### Positions patients as needed for meals. 6.##### Records intake on I#O sheets if indicated. Patient Care 1.##### Answers patient call lights and performs appropriate follow-up. 2.##### Performs a.m. care (p.m. care as indicated). 3.##### Assists staff with positioning and patient mobility. 4.##### Independently ambulate patients. 5.##### Empties foley catheters, urinals, bedpans, commodes, urine hats and drains.# Record I#O as indicated. 6.##### Assists patients to and from the bedside commode or bathroom. 7.##### Assists with bedpan placement as indicated, with follow-up care as necessary. 8.##### Transports specimens to correct department in timely fashion. 9.##### Assists with patient discharges. 10.## Weighs patients as requested. 11.## Takes vital signs accurately and timely. 12.## May be required to perform point of care testing.# May be a point of care trainer. 13.## Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards.# 14.## Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Utilities Management, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure. 15.## Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: a.##### the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); b.##### handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and c.##### hand washing as appropriate. OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 1.##### Attends 75% of unit assistant meetings, assumes responsibility for reading and comprehending all posted minutes and memos, and reads and initials communication book weekly. 2.##### Appears well groomed and observes the hospital dress code. 3.##### Wears identification badge while on duty. 4.##### Maintains a professional appearance. 5.##### Reports to work on time at the start of assigned shift. 6.##### Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time or personal days. 7.##### Provides proper notification and advance notice for absence or tardiness. 8.##### Attends all Joint Commission required in-services yearly. 9.##### Demonstrates understanding of hospital fire, safety, and emergency procedures. 10.## Reviews fire and safety manual yearly. 11.## Knows personal role in the case of an emergency during assigned shift. 12.## Regularly performs well in stressful situations under the direction of a RN. 13.## Maintains stock levels of supplies in patient room cabinets and on unit as indicated.# Practices efficient use of supplies.
