JOB SUMMARY # General Med/ODU Unit is made up of 50% Med Surg and 50% Observational Decision Unit. The Medical Surgical patients consists of General Medicine patients.

The Observational Decision Unit consists of patients who need 24 hour or less monitoring including critical care and non-critical care patients. Candidates interested in this position will need to obtain ACLS and Stroke certification within 6 months. Great place to utilize and/or learn both Med Surg and Critical Care skills.

This position is responsible for providing assistance with patient care activities and non-nursing tasks under the direct supervision of the RN and in cooperation with other nursing staff. This#role requires providing services to one or more age populations, including infant through geriatric, in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Blessing Hospital.

It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values while supporting the strategic plan, goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Process and Patient Safety Plan at Blessing Hospital. # JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education/Training/Experience: REQUIRED: High School Diploma or Equivalent; or, be of at least 16 years of age with an active C.N.A. certification in the State of Illinois Good verbal communication skills Must be one of the following:#(N/A for PCA,SNA or PCT) C.N.A C.M.A. EMT PCA, SNA- Must have completed one of the following:

Patient Care Experience Completed a C.N.A. Program Completed at least sophomore year of a nursing program License/Certifications/Special Requirements:

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience: * Associates or Bachelors Degree from an accredited School of Nursing and current state license for LPN or RN is required, with 3+ years of nursing experience. * At least three (3) years of nursing experience in a senior care community with proven leadership and organizational skills is required. * Assists Director of Nursing with defining and maintaining the standards of nursing practice within the community * Assists with the oversight of provision of appropriate medications, treatments, and general nursing services according to the residents care plan and physician directed orders * Assists in the development and maintenance of in-service education programs for nursing staff * Conducts and participates in daily rounds to monitor the delivery of nursing care * May be required to be on-call periodically or as specifically needed by community * Participates as a member of the communitys management team in planning, policy formation and administrative decision-making, with particular emphasis on the communitys care giver and nursing services * Assumes responsibilities of the Director of Nursing in his/her absence * Working knowledge of best practices for caring for seniors with dementia. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven experience in staffing, leading, developing and retaining a strong resident care team. * Ability to oversee the delivery of quality care and services to our residents in compliance with the regulations pertaining to care plans and resident assessments. * Provide nursing coverage and assistance when needed. * Assess residents and potential residents for appropriate levels of care. * Manage and coordinate the work of all nursing and care staff, communicating pertinent resident health and safety information. * Must be able to meet all physical demands of the job which includes, but is not limited to: seeing, speaking, touching, walking, standing, bending, reaching overhead, crouching/kneeling or crawling, as well as the ability to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs independently and up to 100lbs with assistance. * Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times with the ability to effectively perform conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees and others as needed. * Ability to work well with others and take direction from management, as well as take initiative willing to go above and beyond to ensure our residents needs are met and they are comfortable in their living environment. * Self-motivated to accomplish identified goals with a strong sense of accountability for results. * Proficiency in computer applications such as: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc), Electronic Health Record systems (EHR), such as CareMerge * Must remain flexible and have the ability to work weekends as Manager on Duty, when necessary. * Must possess knowledge of state and federal nursing center laws and regulations regarding senior living care, as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living.
