VIEW JOBS 9/2/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-12-01T00:00 Statement of Purpose: The Hospitality Assistant serves within Heritage House with the goal to create "home" by providing daily services to and for residents, including housekeeping and assisting with dining/meal services. This role will perform multiple functions that support resident's requests and needs. Supports the team to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis on home, and to provide a calm environment. The hospitality assistant will maintain assigned areas in a clean, sanitary, safe, orderly, and attractive manner and will interact with residents, coworkers, families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment. Housekeeping/Laundry Services * Performs day-to-day housekeeping functions in resident rooms and common areas. Performs specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments. Cleans/polishes furniture, fixtures, and ledges in resident rooms and bathrooms daily as needed. * Removes dirt, dust, grease, film, etc, from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions. Discards waste/trash into proper containers. Ensures that equipment, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times when not in use. * Follows all procedures/policies relating to MSDS and wears protective equipment when indicated. * Cleans resident rooms when transfers or discharges occur. Cleans floors, carpets, and walls as needed and contacts supports staff for heavy cleaning/maintenance. * Provides opportunities for residents to do housekeeping functions such as sweeping, dusting, etc., as desired. * May assist as needed in full laundry services such as: Sorts soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and separates those items that require special treatment. Sorts and washes soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., in accordance with procedures. * Presses/irons garments as requested/needed by the resident. Ensures that resident clothing is maintained free from rips, tears, that buttons are sewed on and clothing is hemmed. * Folds, stacks, and distributes clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., to residents daily and/or as instructed. * Provides opportunities for residents to assist with laundry, folding linens, ironing, etc. as desired. Personal Resident Care Functions * Assists household/nursing team members and others as requested to accommodate resident schedules and personal routines. * May assist with light personal care such as nail care, hair grooming, dressing, etc. as appropriate and requested by resident. * Promptly reports to the team leader or nurse mentor when the following occurs: * Encourages resident choice and honors requests for individualized care. Cooperates with other resident services to ensure that each person's total care is maintained. * Participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested. * Spends casual time with the resident getting to know them and family members. Participates in games, activities, social outings, dining, etc., with residents in household. Safety and Sanitation * Follows safety regulations/precautions in the use of equipment and supplies. Maintains resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. * Participates in all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills in a safe and professional manner. Participates in the facility's infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among the residents and personnel. * Follows established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary. Follows established procedures in the use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Reports hazardous conditions of equipment. Reports missing/illegible labels and MSDSs. * Keeps residents' personal possessions off the floor and properly stored. Keeps floors dry. Cleans, disinfects, and returns all resident care equipment to its designated storage area after each use. Stores and/or locks all hazardous equipment or tools before leaving work area for breaks or at the end of the workday. * Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies, as required by safety procedures. Resident Relations & Miscellaneous * Treats all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect. Honors resident's requests for personal daily pleasures. * Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information. * Ensures that all nursing care is provided in privacy. Knocks before entering the resident's room to ensure residents' privacy. * Is knowledgeable of the resident's responsibilities and rights including the right to refuse treatment. * Honors the resident's refusal of treatment request, in accordance with the facility's policies governing advance directives. * Life Enhancement Activities * Helps team create interest based household activities and participates in the enhancement of daily living. Provides spontaneous and genuine daily one-to-one interaction with residents. * Performs a variety of tasks, such as shopping, running errands, reading, visiting, spiritual devotion and support, exercise, outings, playing games, etc. Documents all activities of residents. Food Service Functions: * Creates a dining environment that has all the elements of "home." Sets up dining room and prepares food according to recipes, preparation, service methods, and food handling techniques to insure quality. Participates in the sanitation and housekeeping procedures as scheduled. * Visits with residents regarding food preferences, choice, and honor as such. May assist in preparing and delivering food for residents as needed, and whenever the resident chooses. * Maintains food storage areas in a clean, sanitary, and properly arranged manner. Assists in daily and scheduled cleaning duties. * Records the resident's food/fluid intake as applicable to establish procedure. Reports changes in the resident's eating habits. Serves between meal and bedtime snacks. Keeps residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water, and within easy reach of the resident. Checks rooms for food articles. * Eats meals with residents and assists residents with eating/feeing for those who have no complicated feeding problems. Competency and Knowledge Requirements: * While a degree is not required, it is expected that individuals in this position are interested in the field of healthcare and possess the aptitude to perform the personal care responsibilities of this position. * Must possess a genuine desire to work with seniors and honor their individual preferences and their independence. Must be able to communicate effectively with older adults and be sensitive to their needs and wishes. In addition, must demonstrate patience and good people skills when working with individuals who may have memory or behavioral challenges. * Must be able to follow instructions and exercise good judgment in emergency situations. * Ability to function effectively under changing circumstances and be flexible. * Ability to respect and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of residents. * Will be required to attend team meetings and in-services as scheduled. Dependent Adult Abuse must be completed within six months of hire and on an ongoing basis. * Must have fundamental computer skills to complete online training and basic data entry/documentation as required for the role. * Must be able to communicate in the English language with enough proficiency to be understood by residents and team members as well as to understand directions and safety rules.
