Perform basic nursing care under the direction of a licensed nurse while meeting, or exceeding service standards. Assist residents with personal, nutritional and restorative care. Treats each resident with respect and dignity


  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires ability to provide basic nursing care to the elderly and to effectively communicate with residents, families, supervisor, and Health Center employees. The ability to lift, move and transfer residents while providing nursing care may be necessary.

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: No experience necessary.

  • Certificates/ Licenses: Current State CNA certification preferred. CPR required.


The responsibilities of the Certified Nursing Assistant include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities with a positive attitude.

  • Acts as a representative of the residence to the community.

  • Assist licensed personnel by providing basic nursing care to an assigned group of residents; follow resident care plans for delivery of resident care and service.

  • Provide and document personal care for residents, including bathing, showering, shampooing, oral hygiene, skin care, nail care, dressing and shaving.

  • Provide proper restorative care such as range-of-motion exercise, proper positioning and ambliation.

  • Assist residents with nutritional needs including serving, feeding and providing proper fluid requirements.

  • Encourage resident independence and optimal level of functioning.

  • Respond to all resident requests (verbally or call-light) for assistance.

  • Practice positive resident relations; respond to resident and family inquiries, concerns or problems.

  • Receive and give reports on residents' condition at beginning and end of each shift.

  • Exchange resident information with charge nurses on an ongoing basis.

  • Observe any change in resident condition and report to the charge nurse immediately.

  • Communicate/cooperate with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to accomplish plan of care.

  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of resident information.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique in all resident care to prevent spread of disease and infection.

  • Adhere to universal precautions and all other infection control guidelines.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency policy and procedure and use of fire extinguisher.

  • Identify potential hazards and maintain a safe environment for residents and staff.

VIEW JOBS 9/6/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-05T00:00 SUMMARY: Medication Technicians after completing required training shall be certified by the applicable State Agency. Medication Technicians work under the direct or indirect Supervision of a RN or LPN. The duties include the administration of approved medication with knowledge of effects and side effects of each medication administered and charting this administration. Prior to being assigned regular duties, each Medication Technician shall successfully complete the facility's orientation training program. All Medication Technicians are required to participate in the facility's regularly scheduled in-service training programs. Upon request of the program Director, Medication Technicians shall participate in specialized staff training programs. Medication Technicians who are responsible for the Residents' well being and medication administration must not have a physical or emotional problem that would interfere with normal daily functioning and the provisions of appropriate care. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: * Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Shall be fluent in the ability to communicate in the English language, both oral and written, particularly as such communication relates to understanding and making notes in the residents' records with respect to Medication Management. * Education: Must have successfully completed a State approved program and demonstrate to a RN or LPN (who has successfully completed the required State medication technician training requirements ("Train the Trainer")) the ability to successfully pass the State established evaluation checklist. This evaluation and objective must be completed by such RN or LPN according to State regulations and these evaluations will be maintained in the employee's file. * Certificates/ Licenses: Required to maintain required certification and to provide copies of the documentation to the RN or LPN. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The responsibilities of the Certified Medication Technician include but are not limited to the following * Understands the ethical and legal responsibilities inherent in the administration of medication. * Has knowledge and understanding of medication, abbreviations, common side effects, adverse reactions, expected action, look alike medication, drug interaction, importance of prompt reporting of unwanted effects, proper storage, and use of reference. * Knowledge, understanding and use of apothecary and metric measurement and simple conversion. * Ability to properly and safely set up and administer non-injectable medications with the exception of all Schedule II Drugs. * Ability to properly chart medications administered and immediately report to the charge nurse those medications not administered for any reason. * Answering emergency calls and attending to residents' needs promptly. * Assisting with resident care as time and need dictates.
