Location & commitments

Full Time role based at our Greenville Women's Care (other) Practice, Sunday- Saturday, days and hours vary based on call schedule.

Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is required.

Supervision Received: Facility physicians assign direct clinical supervision. Reports to the location Operations Manager.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Requires normal speech and visual acuity and hearing. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires working extended hours in hospital setting. Requires covering call day, night, and weekend hours. Requires call coverage during holidays.

Typical Working Conditions:

Frequent exposures to hazards found in clinic environments and hospital settings involving direct patient care.

Concepts, Beliefs, and Objectives

  • The family is the basic unit of society, and it is within the scope of nurse midwifery to preserve and enhance its integrity.

  • All pregnant women participate in and are recipients of individualized and comprehensive care throughout the

  • childbearing cycle.

  • Nurse Midwives are responsible to themselves and their professional colleagues to constantly increase their skills and knowledge necessary for current and accountable practice.

  • The nurse midwife is accountable for her decisions and actions in relation to management of care, including the decision of when to consult with the physician.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and general gynecological care to patients including:

  • Initial prenatal office visits, interviewing, performing exams, patient health education, follow-up prenatal visits, postpartum exams, annual exams, and work in visits.

  • Managing labor and attending delivery.

  • Making daily rounds of postpartum patients.

  • On call for hospital (depending on the facility schedule).

  • Follow Physicians East, P.A. policy and procedure for dictation and documentation.

2.Assist with various administrative activities of the Nurse-Midwifery Program such as:

  • Communicating with Physicians East, P.A. Facility and hospital staff and physicians.

  • Reviewing lab data and keeping records and statistics as needed for research projects.

  • Telephone follow-up with patients.

  • Updating annual Certified Nurse-Midwife statistics and protocols.

  • Participating in various committees and meetings as needed.

3.Provide both clinical and classroom health care teaching and counseling as needed to patients, families, students, and community programs. Act as preceptor for students to include mid-level extenders, nursing, and medical students.

4.Contribute information to research projects pertaining to Nurse-Midwife patients; assist with investigation of patient care problems; participate in individual and group projects and publication when appropriate; conduct own research projects.

  • Attend Physicians East, P.A. clinical meetings for Mid-Level Extenders.

  • Licensure/Certification must be current and renewed annually.

  • CPR certification. ACLS classes and certifications suggested.

  • Attend annual Compliance.

Minimum Qualifications of Employment

  • Completion of a nurse midwifery program approved by the American College of Nurse Midwifery (ACNM)

  • Possess evidence of certification according to the requirements of the American College of Nurse Midwives Certification Committee.

  • Must have and maintain a current license to practice nursing in the state of North Carolina.

  • Current in the practice of nurse midwifery according to the standards of nurse midwifery as set forth by the ACNM.

  • Be credentialed to practice as a CNM at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

  • Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support, CPR, and Neonatal Resuscitation.

  • Participate in Continuing Competency Assessment (CCA) as established by the ACNM.

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Be confident in clinical decision-making and autonomous in providing care to patients in a fast-paced clinical practice setting.

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be proactive in discussing case management.

  • Possess excellent time management and have ability to work well with patients and their families, collaborating/supervising physicians, facility staff and leadership.

  • Display a professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families, maintaining strict confidentiality in all times.

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of team commitment, which includes meeting deadlines, punctuality and excellent follow-through and feedback.

Purpose of the Nurse Midwifery Service

  • To develop and support the profession of nurse midwifery to promote the health and well-being of

  • Women and infants within their families and communities.

  • Provide care for essentially normal women and their infants throughout the reproductive cycle by working.

  • Collaboratively within the health care team.

  • The Nurse Midwifery Service will assist in the education for families by teaching childbirth preparation.

  • Classes, infant care, and breastfeeding classes.
