DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Provides for the activities of daily living using established nursing guidelines and procedures for nursing home. Typical tasks include: dressing and grooming, peri-care, oral care, showers and baths, toileting, feeding, sanitation and cleaning of designated areas, bed and linen changes.

Assists in activities, transfers patients using proper techniques and equipment. Notes ADL's on flow sheets.

Shift Differential of .50 evenings and $1.00 nights.

This position shift is: Thurs. thru Mon. 2:00 p.m. .- 10:30 p.m.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of established nurse aide procedures and guidelines. Skills in the use of proper lifting techniques, the use of mechanical lifts, scales, and other typical equipment used in nursing procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively with residents and staff. Ability to follow direction, read, write, and maintain visual acuity. Ability to work in a safe manner following established policies and general safety rules. Physical demands include, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, and extensive standing.

Typical tasks include: passing medication, administers subcutaneous, intramuscular and intradermal injections, enemas, laxatives, suppositories, and oxygen. Performs treatments, changes dressing, cleans wounds, apply topicals, observe diet, foot and nail care and assesses skin care. Transcribes and carries out physician's orders. Performs pertinent and routine charting, processes critical incident reports, ensures vital signs and weights are taken weekly. Prepares resident for lab, x-ray, doctor and dental appointments. Stocks nursing station with supplies. Cleaning tasks as assigned. Directs DON CNA with their duties. The incumbent will be required to work all locations at the Montana Veterans Home. Other tasks as assigned by supervisor. PLUS Shift Differential of .50 evenings and $1.00 nights. Knowledge of medications, their indication, mode of action, potential side effects, drug to drug interaction, usual dosage, MAR sheets in resident's chart. Knowledge of Infection Control principles. Skill in observing and reporting physical and psychological changes. Skill in the use of glucose testing equipment, thermometers, oximeter, and other medical/procedural equipment. Ability to communicate effectively with residents and staff, keep accurate records, identify resident physical and psychological needs, follow directions, read, write, and maintain visual acuity.
