  • Communicates questions, concerns, and/or discrepancies related to medication administration to the Resident Care Director (RCD)

  • Communicates any significant change of mental or physical status of resident to RCD

  • Documents supervision of self-administration in MAR

  • Documents/ notifies RCD of administration of prn meds

  • Responsible for documentation on prn meds and affect

  • Recognizes and can assist in the prevention of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation


  • Understands the ethical and legal responsibilities inherent in the administration of medications

  • Has knowledge and understanding of medication, abbreviations, common side effects, adverse reactions, expected action, look alike medications, drug interactions, importance of prompt reporting of unwanted effects, proper storage, and use of reference

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of apothecary and metric measurement and simple conversion.

  • Checks all med books and ensures that meds have been given, treatments completed, and all initials are complete as state regulations permit

  • Checks ADL books for signatures and completion of care

  • Reviews and completes all incident reports and illness reports

  • Acts as lead in an emergency (e.g., elopement, fire, disaster, etc.)

Resident Care

  • Able to properly and safely set up and administer non-injectable medications with the exception of all Schedule II Drugs

  • Able to properly chart medications administered and immediately report to the nurse those medications not administered for any reason

  • Answers emergency calls and attends to residents' needs promptly

  • Responsible for maintaining adequate supply of meds (ordering and reordering)

  • Responsible for administering non-controlled substances

  • Responsible for documentation of med administration in MAR

  • Responsible for administering non injectable medication

  • May supervise resident who is self-administering injectable medications

  • Certified Medication Technician

Job Requirements


  • Must have state Medication Technician License

  • Must demonstrate competency in accordance with the state-approved protocol in drug administration

  • Successfully complete medication technician competency review (as supervised by RN / RCD) quarterly

  • CPR certification required or ability to obtain within six months of hire

  • The Medication Technician must complete a state approved training course in drug administration and receive a certificate of satisfactory successful completion.

  • Med-Techs will be evaluated on their competency by the RCD each quarter

  • Must have current certification as a nursing assistant or have successfully completed the certified home health aide or homemaker/personal care homemaker training program

  • High School education preferred

Major Duties & Responsibilities: * Provide exceptional customer service to all patients and members of the clinic staff * Under direct supervision of the registered pharmacist, fills prescription orders and makes them available for verification by the Pharmacist. Once verified by the pharmacist, dispenses the prescriptions. * Order, receive and store incoming pharmacy supplies. * Receive and process wholesaler medication orders. * Verify medication stock and enter data in computer to maintain inventory records. * Help maintain a clean organized work environment. * Perform various clerical duties relating to the department. * Work with the pharmacist to assist in the pharmacy functions and keeping the pharmacy in compliance with all federal and state requirements. * Occasional medication delivery to consumers. * Other Duties as assigned. Educational or Skills Requirements: * Must be a licensed Pharmacy Technician in the state of Rhode Island * Some Pharmacy Technician experience is required * PTCB Certification is preferred, but not required for all states * Knowledge of Microsoft Office and telephone protocol.
