Functioning under the general supervision of the Service Line Manager and a licensed caregiver, the Clinical Care Associate (CCA) provides clinical and administrative support to nurses, physicians and allied health providers (Clinicians) working in the hospital licensed clinics. From diagnosis to recovery, Cedars-Sinai offers expert, compassionate care for a wide range of neurological disorders. Whether you need medical services, surgery or minimally invasive treatment, our nationally respected doctors, surgeons and support teams will work together to provide your best outcome and quality of life. Neurosciences include Neurosurgical, Neurology, Pituitary, and Neuro-Oncology patients- both short-term surgical and long term medicine patients. The goal is to have the CCA's able to float throughout each area with ease- Not only seeing patients in clinic but also following up on long term patients as a resource for prescription refills and authorizations. This person should be a fast learner, flexible, and have a positive attitude. Recommend those with phlebotomy certifications.

Job Responsibilities include:

The Ophthalmic Assistant provides support to Ophthalmologist, Optometrist and/or physician in order to facilitate the evaluation, treatment, and management of patients receiving specialized ophthalmic care. Collects patient medical records/history/information, conducts patient education about procedures and proper medical care, performs preliminary eye function testing and charts for physicians during examinations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs initial patient exams for new and returning patients to include patient history, vision test or pupil evaluation.

  • Performs technical work-ups (automated and manual) and special testing to prepare patients for examination of procedure.

  • Reviews patient charts prior to exam, prepares examination rooms, maintains equipment and inventory of supplies.

  • Reviews, updates, and completes patient Electronic Medical Record (EMR) accurately.

  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Maintains Ophthalmic instruments or equipment.

  • Preforms administrative tasks to include responding to phone inquiries/messages. Assists with scheduling appointments. Under direction of physician may call pharmacy with prescription refills and records prescription in EMR

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
License/Certification/Registration

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant required

  • American Heart Association BLS required

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of Ophthalmic Assistant in an Eye Clinic or Hospital setting required

  • Two (2) years of conducting testing and special procedures required

  • Ability to convey and/or receive written/verbal information to/from various audiences in different formats

  • Ability to provide and/or support a level of work excellence and accuracy; recognize and address flaws or errors that others may overlook

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain privacy, confidentiality or anonymity

  • Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of State, Federal and Agency standards to comply with regulations

  • Ability to operate mechanical/medical devices and/or equipment

  • Ability to use software applications and operate technological devices (e.g., computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.)

Preferred during employment, if not certified at time of hire:

The CCA may also perform non-invasive routine technical services under the supervision of a licensed physician, surgeon or podiatrist who is on the premises. The Clinical Care Associate functions within his/her scope of education/certification not to exceed what is permitted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center policies, procedures and guidelines. Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Collects patient history and documents in EMR appropriately. Obtains all results (films, test) prior to patient visit. * Maintains timely patient flow and room availability. Assist patients with the completion of forms, as needed. * Performs clinical responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting lab specimens, performing EKG's, administering medications and injections (as directed by clinician), and record / document patient record. * Conducts appropriate hand-offs or reporting process as defined by program workflows and applicable policy. * Participates in the patient check out process: facilitating follow-up tests, and referrals to other providers. Knowledgeable with referral system and ensures accurate and timely follow through with all referrals generated. * Prepares, cleans exam / procedure room and setup appropriate supplies. Ensures equipment, forms and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit / procedure. Maintain and monitor all equipment used for patient care and testing and reports discrepancies to supervisor. * Reduces the risk of health care acquired infection by complying with current CDC guidelines and CSMC Hospital Acquired Infection prevention policy. * Collects and prepares specimens and transports to lab. Follows hospital policy for specimen labeling and logging. * Performs unit office procedures including all general administrative duties as required (i.e. scanning, filing, faxing, phones, courier duties, etc.). * Acts as a transporter for stable, non-acute patients for testing or treatment. Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program License/Certification Requirements: Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association Phlebotomy Certification required at time of hire or within 180 days of employment.
