St. Luke's reimburses for RMA/CMA certification fees annually.

Responsible for performing the primary functions of a Medical Assistant, as well as clerical and reception duties, in multiple practices as assigned by supervisor. Responsibilities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, rooming patients, other clinical duties, compliant documentation in the EMR, and handling pre-certifications and referrals.

Performs additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned by supervisor, physician, and physician extender. Position requires travel among multiple practices. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent1. Clinical 45%a. Rooms patients.b. Measures and records vital signs.c. Records chief complaint and patient history.d. Prepares patients for examinations.e. Assists physicians and physician extenders with exams and minor office procedures.f. Administers medications per physician orders.g. Provides patient education per physician orders.h. Stocks, cleans, and maintains sufficient supplies and equipment.i. Disposes of biohazard and waste according to OSHA standards.j. Performs accurate documentation in the EMR. 2. Clerical 45% a. Answers the phone and schedules appointments.b. Greets patients and completes required forms.c. Files and maintains medical records.d. Processes mail.e. Covers front desk reception as needed.f. Handles pre-certifications and referrals.
3.Administrative a. Completes projects in medical group administration as assigned by supervisor. 5%b. Performs other duties as assigned. 5%

Education

High school diploma required. RMA, CMA, or ABR-OE required.

Experience

Greater than one year of experience in medical office or hospital department, or graduate of MA program preferred preferred Basic computer skills required. Good verbal and documentation skills required.

The assessment, care and treatment provided by the medical assistant will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The medical assistant is competent to care for patient age groups consistent with the specialties of the physician(s) in the practice.

Working Conditions

Employee is required to sit and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) load frequently, a medium (21-50 lbs.) and/or heavy (50 lbs. +) load occasionally.

Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. Employee may be required to do simple grasping and pushing/pulling.

(Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%)

The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.

Works to facilitate processes with other departments, personnel, and insurance companies to coordinate patient care. Answers phones, schedules patient appointments, handles pre-certifications and referrals. Maintains a pleasant, efficient, and well-organized working environment. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent 1. Coordinates patient flow by scheduling appointments, checking in patients upon arrival, confirming demographic information and insurance, confirming or obtaining referrals as appropriate, and collecting copays. (30%) 2. Performs office duties to include, but not limited to answering phones and directing phone calls, or taking and relaying messages appropriately. (30%) 3. Prepares patient charts with insurance specific forms, requisitions, and superbills. Processes and files test results in a timely manner. (15%) 4. Responsible for scheduling patients for tests and procedures, obtaining necessary insurance authorization, and providing patients with instructions. (15%) 5. Responsible for rooming patients, including recording weight and vital signs. (5%) 6. Performs other work duties as assigned.
