The role you'll contribute:

The Medical Assistant I Quality/Infection Prevention, under general supervision, provides appropriate care to patients as well as identifies clinical care gaps and infection prevention improvements, and trains department coworkers to provide optimal care for our patients. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Quality/Infection Prevention Track

o If quality/infection prevention MA track is taken, must complete required amount of hand hygiene audits every year, and completed required education.

o Advocate for infection prevention initiatives at clinic site and participates in quality/patient safety rounding in practice(s).

o Must maintain education requirements for position and demonstrate competency, as required

Front Office Duties

o Verify and validate insurance prior to appointment date.

o Completes check in process, securing copays and balance amounts.

o Maintains timely flow of patients and keep patients up to date of any delays.

Clinical Duties

o Rooms patient and completes screenings, history taking, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and other relevant intake needs.

o Prepares the patient and room for physical assessment or procedure.

o Educate patients regarding tests, medications, diet information.

o Assists with procedures such as EKG, ear lavage, vaccines, injectables, wound care, vision, and hearing tests.

o Responsible for preparation of exam rooms including restocking of treatment areas and disinfecting of exam tables and counters.

o Answer phone calls relating to clinical needs and triages appropriately

Leadership

o Proactive in reviewing charts for upcoming days to see any gaps in care, insurance, orders, coding.

o Participates in identifying needs in clinic workflows and assists as needed

o Assists with teaching new clinical staff during their onboarding period

Other

o Responsible for promoting and maintaining practice compliance and patient safety according to clinical best practice and, state and federal regulations (i.e., OSHA, Biomedical Waste Regulations, PSQA).

o Maintains medication safely by monitoring refrigerator and freezer temperatures.

o Ensures that no expired medications are available for use.

o Pro-actively initiate quality improvement ideas/suggestions.

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

  • Minimum qualifications :

o High school graduate or equivalent

o Completed required Education for either extern preceptor track or Quality/ Infection prevention track

o 1 year of practical medical assisting experience AND one of the medical assistant certifications listed below OR

o Graduate of a medical assisting program in lieu of experience

o Current, valid CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS).

o Must be currently certified and maintain certification by one of the following:

o American Association of Medical Assistants ("AAMA") for Certified Medical Assistants

o American Medical Certification Association ("AMCA") for Clinical Medical Assistant Certification

o American Medical Technologists ("AMT") for Registered Medical Assistant

o National Association for Health Professionals ("NAHP") for Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant

o National Center for Competency Testing ("NCCT") for National Certified Medical Assistant

o National Health Career Association ("NHA") for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

o American Registry of Medical Assistant ("ARMA")

  • Knowledge and Skills Required:

o Must be familiar with Quality metrics.

o Knowledge of health care field and medical terminology.

o Knowledge of chronic disease management.

o Knowledge of and ability to utilize internal and external resources.

o Expertise in patient advocacy and navigating complex systems.
