Duties:Program Responsibilities: 1. Assists with direct patient care procedures (e.g., vital signs, weighing and measuring infants/children, recording data on the growth chart, and collecting patient history information). 2.
Performs office duties (e.g., computer entries, answering phones, scheduling appointments, conducting referrals, etc.) 3. Assists in the efficient operation of the clinic by coordinating patient services through interaction with clinic staff and other FNCH programs. 4. Performs routine specialized procedures such as venipuncture and sterile dressing changes. 5.
Maintains and stocks laboratory and medical exam rooms with laboratory and/or medical supplies as necessary. 6. Assist with patient collections by identifying patients eligible for Medicaid or UNM Cares and completing referral forms. 7. Works collaboratively with Primary Care Clinic staff and other FNCH programs. 8.
Conducts visual acuity for physicals. 9. Triages patients. 10. Performs EKGs. 11.
Dispenses medication under the supervision of the physician. 12. Assists the physician with simple medical procedures such as IUD placement/removals, wound care, and other procedures. 13. Performs lab tests including rapid strep, mono, pregnancy, Hematocrits, Hemoglobin A1cs, and cholesterol. 14.
Provides injections including depo and immunizations. 15. Conducts ear and eye irrigations. 16. Sanitizes all equipment and instruments. 17.
Locates and files patient charts. 18. Assists patients with completing paperwork (e.g., Breast and Cervical Cancer forms, release of information forms, etc.). 19. Ensures the medication room door is locked at all times. 20.
Attends staff meetings and other meetings as requested by the Supervisor. 21. Provides relief to the front desk receptionist as requested. 22. Assists in advocating for patients which are consistent with the Medical Assistant training and certification. 23.
Recognizes and reports conditions requiring immediate action to medical provider. 24. Coordinates clinical care with the BCC and Title X programs. 25. Attends relevant trainings as approved by the Chief Medical Officer.
Keeps abreast of current practices and concepts through literature reviews, seminars and trainings. 26. Assists the Primary Care clinic with clinic operations including triaging, rooming, and taking vitals of patients. 27. Assists in the efficient operation of the clinic by coordinating patient services through interaction with clinic staff and other FNCH program
Qualifications:1. Certification as a Medical Assistant. 2.
Previous experience in a primary care clinic or other similar health center preferred.
