About this role

A Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care through the gathering of information during the clinical process under supervision of Registered Nurses. Assists all nurses with performing activities commensurate with his/her education and demonstrated competencies.

What you bring to the table

Education:

  • Completed an accredited CMA course

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Currently certified as a Medical Assistant in the State if certification is required by the State

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification

What you will do

Consult with and is responsible to RN's and other staff as appropriate. Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Intervenes with proper technique, procedures and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patient. Participates in gathering information on patient history. Verifies medications.

Makes appropriate referrals for follow-up. Adhere to work the work schedule as designated by your supervisor to ensure continuity of care for the patient and maintenance of staffing matrix for the client. Respond to code, or patient crisis as set forth by the sites policy and procedure.

Assists health care practitioner as assigned. Adhere to infection control techniques and principles. Provides for emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients.

Assists in maintaining working areas, supplies, and equipment in good working order. Attends mandatory staff meetings/ training. Respects dignity and confidentiality of patients.

Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis. Post orders, if applicable, per site contract. Perform other duties as assigned.

Evaluates specimen integrity and correlates test results to the clinical picture of each individual. Performs medical lab testing for patient diagnosis and treatment. Schedule: Full-Time Responsibilities: * Responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures relating to blood and body fluid, collection, processing, testing and storage. Demonstrates advanced technical skill in the collection of blood samples and acts as a resource to clinic and hospital personnel. Can evaluate and accurately process samples upon receipt. * Performs phlebotomy and records necessary quality control procedures. * Operates testing instrumentation and performs testing kits, evaluating results and reporting resorts according to established policies and procedures. Communicates with physicians and other appropriate staff concerning procedures and results. * Stocks supplies, fills supply orders for clinics and communicates supply needs to Laboratory Director or designee. * Acts as a departmental liaison to internal and external customers providing information related to specimen requirements, test results, and assisting with troubleshooting guidance and/or refers problems within departmental guidelines. * Performs clerical functions to include but not limited to completion of requisitions for reference lab testing, faxing results to clinicians, performing Quality Assurance audits of accuracy of orders, and filing completed test records and other regulatory documents. Required Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Must be BLS certified * Must have the ability to work well with infants, children and adults. Experience working with infants and children preferred. * Ability to adhere to policies and procedures as they relate to communication and collection of blood and body fluid samples. * Ability to perform procedures which are uncomfortable or painful to the patient while helping patient to feel cared for as individuals.
