Description

The Certified Massage Therapist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Certified Massage Therapist provides optimal quality of patient care services through massage therapy programs that restore, function, and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of any body part, involving particularly the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. Maintains professionalism, ethics, and efficiency under supervision of the Director of Rehabilitative Services.

Responsibilities:

Organizational Standards & Compliance:

  • Demonstrates commitment to the KishHealth System values of quality, integrity, service, stewardship, innovation and community.

  • Understands and adheres to the Corporate Compliance Plan, the KHS Code of Conduct, the Confidentiality Agreement, and Organizational Standards of Performance.

  • Keeps abreast on all pertinent federal, state and company regulations, laws and policies as they currently exist and as they change or are modified.

Patient Assessment:

  • Collects historical data related to the patient's diagnosis or complaint with consideration to age specific variables.

  • Assesses patient's status by recording findings of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular and other related conditions, as well as functional skills.

  • Assesses educational needs related to status and treatment plan. Formulate goals and treatment plan pertinent to patient's assessed status/needs, physician recommendations, and with respect to patient's limitations.

  • Reevaluates progress on an ongoing basis.

Treatment:

  • Utilizes age specific safety, physiologic, and communication principles.

  • Effectively educate patient in goal of treatment plan

  • Administer or supervise treatment with respect to patient's safety and needs; use complete technical knowledge and clinical judgment in treatment.

  • Skillfully and safely progress patient through levels of treatment, within the maximum capabilities of the patient.

  • Utilize appropriate equipment in a safe manner and checks equipment on an ongoing basis.

Documentation:

  • Ensures written prescription or verbal order is obtained prior to treatment.

  • Always keeps accurate, up-to-date records of patient evaluations, progress, discharge status, patient attendance, procedure counts, and other statistics as outlined in department procedure manual and/or performance improvement plan.

  • Completes discharge summary including recommendations to patient and/or family regarding home exercise prescription and/or additional services.

Communication:

  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to communicate in a developmentally appropriate manner with patients to establish favorable attitudes and motivate them to desired cooperation and effort in rehabilitative development.

  • Regularly communicates evaluation results and the general outline of the treatment program to patient, family, and other health care professionals involved in the patient's care. Explains the procedure to the patient before treating, taking the needs of the individual into consideration, i.e., speaks slower and/or louder while working with an elderly patient or comforts the mentally handicapped individual.

  • Respects, at all times, the confidentiality of patient records and uses complete discretion when discussing patient matters.

  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and appropriate inter-/intradepartmental relationship with all patient care personnel.

  • Contributes to department meetings by giving thoughtful input and suggestions.

Marginal Functions:

  • Promotes education and awareness for department personnel, other hospital personnel, medical staff, and the community.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited Massage Therapy program

  • Current Illinois license in Massage Therapy

  • Completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider recognition within 30 days of employment

  • Knowledge of growth and development through the lifespan as pertinent to the rehabilitation process
