The Certified Histotechnologist performs daily histopathology procedures involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s) according to policies and procedures and to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Utilizes data in the Laboratory Information System to process and prepare patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist, according to established protocols. This may include logging, batching, cutting, mounting and staining procedures and autopsy support. Responsible for sorting, logging and prioritizing tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases according to the required standards. Also responsible for other tasks such as quality control, instrument maintenance, tissue sectioning, reagent preparation, tissue fixation procedures, etc.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Registered Histologist Technician (ASCP)
American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to independently perform wide range of routine histology laboratory procedures including interpretation of quality control data.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must have skill to use personal computers and lab IS software applications.
Must be team player.
Professional interaction with pathologists.
Knowledge of acceptable Histology laboratory testing theory and techniques, normal and abnormal laboratory testing results, knowledge of regulatory standards as set forth by CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, and CLSI.
Instrumental maintenance knowledge, knowledge of handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
