What you will do in this role:

Performs direct patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Maintains a safe patient care environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities that foster the goals of the hospital's mission and vision statements.

When functioning as a Tech First Assistant (Tech III), demonstrated knowledge of surgical assisting and closure.

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in closing a surgical incision.

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in assisting a surgeon during a surgical procedure.

  • Assists the Registered Nurse (RN) in properly positioning the patient for a specified procedure.

  • Displays clinical expertise in the application of post-op dressings.

  • Possesses extensive knowledge of sutures and their different applications.

  • Possesses extensive knowledge in the use of electrocautery and assists in maintaining patient safety.

  • Assists the RN in preparing the Operating Room for surgery.

  • Assures the aseptic technique is being done correctly and that the integrity of the sterile field is maintained.

  • Along with the surgical tech, "pulls" all the necessary supplies, equipment and instruments needed for the case.

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in surgical instruments and their application to different procedures.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology school or equivalent experience or training

What qualification you will need:

  • Good communication skills

  • Certification required.

  • BCLS required

Responsibilities: * Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. * Prepares sterile instrument table. * Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards. * Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. * Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients. * Transports patients to and from surgical suite. * Positions patient according to type of surgery. * Assists the surgical team in surgical procedures which may include passing instruments, sponges and sutures. * Maintains work area. * Gathers equipment for cleaning and sterilization. * Assists in the monitoring of the patient through the procedure. * Provides age and culturally appropriate care. * Orients and mentors new staff members. * Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Qualifications: * Graduate of a formal surgical technologist program or equivalent training. * Certification as a Surgical Technologist. * Detail-oriented with ability to sustain concentration over long periods of time. * Customer service abilities including effective listening skills. * Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds HCA Brownsville TX
