Harbor is looking for a Certified Family Peer Support Specialist who delivers professional care in the appropriate setting to parents and families who are experiencing severe emotional disturbance and behavioral disorders. This person functions as a peer support to clients and assists other mental health providers in carrying out any and all relevant activities and tasks.
Position is full-time, remote, with community based work. Candidate preferable lives in Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky, or Wyandot counties.
Education/Experience/Other Requirements:
Parent/guardian or primary caretaker of a child who is or has received services from the mental health system.
Obtain Ohio Parent Peer Support Certification within 120 days of hire.
Must possess the skills necessary to help clients achieve and maintain their highest level of functioning by striving for successful community living.
Must have the ability to offer a unique perspective of parenting/raising a child with serious emotional disturbance or behavior concerns.
Must be proficient and accurate in computer use, including Microsoft Word.
Must be at least 23 years of age, have valid Driver's license, acceptable driving record, and be deemed insurable through Harbor's vehicle insurance carrier
Certified Parent Peer Supporters must maintain current continuing education and requirements for renewal for their certificate. CPR/First Aid and NCI/CPI Certifications required within 90 days of employment.
Must successfully demonstrate the basic competencies for Parent Peer Support services, as determined by your supervisor's review, within 90 days of hire.
Essential Job Competencies/Primary Duties:
Uses lived experience as a parent/guardian or primary caretaker in assisting and supporting youth and families on an ongoing basis.
Assists treatment and service coordination teams in the assessment and engagement of clients residing in the community and in the hospital.
Supports the child and family teams (CFT) for wraparound and service coordination teams.
Assists clients in identifying, using, and accessing family, neighborhood, community support services, and achieving community integration.
Assists team, clients, and staff members in completing documentation necessary to determine eligibility for community resources.
Follows crisis prevention/intervention protocols.
Acts as advocate for client to secure needed services.
Provides feedback on the needs of parents and families and assists in identifying gaps in services and supports.
Collects required data from youth and families for program evaluation.
