POSITION SUMMARY

Identifies reviews and assigns complex ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, POA indicators and PSI indicators, surgical complications to most accurately report the MS-DRG and Severity of Illness/Risk of Morality. Identifies reviews and assigns complex ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/PCS or CPT/HCPCS codes, and abstracts clinical information from inpatient/outpatient types.

Extracts pertinent information from clinical notes, operative notes, radiology reports, laboratory reports, (including Pathology), procedure records, specialty forms, etc. Determines complex code assignment pertinent to diagnostic workups, surgical techniques, advanced technology and special services, identifies medical and surgical complications and untoward events for accurate MS-DRG/APR-DRG or APC assignment. All coding and abstracting is for the purpose of reimbursements, research, and compliance with federal regulations and other agencies utilizing established coding principles and protocols.

Clarifies complex discrepancies in documentation and coding; assures accuracy and timeliness of coding/abstracting assignments to expedite the billing process and to facilitate data retrieval for physician access and ongoing patient care. Supports special studies in relation to coding and abstracting information according to policies and procedures. Maintains knowledge and skills; reads current coding resources clinical information, videos, etc.

Meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards and established department benchmarks. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position will be on-site. Remote option available if Arkansas Resident.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Certification required as follows (or any combination thereof): Inpatient Coding: RHIT,RHIA,CCS, or CIC Outpatient Coding: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, COC, or CPC

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines. This position functions according to the WRMC HIPAA guidelines. Preferred minimum of two years experience as a coder or strong training background in coding and reimbursement within an acute care setting.

Position Summary The scrub person under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety and efficiency of the sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.  Knowledge of and experience with sterile technique qualify the scrub to prepare and arrange instruments and supplies and to facilitate the surgical procedure.  He or she must anticipate, plan for, and respond to the needs of the surgeon and other team members by constantly monitoring the sterile field.  Manual dexterity and physical stamina are required.  Other important assets include a stable temperament, ability to work under pressure, a keen sense of responsibility, and a concern for accuracy in performing all duties.  This position has exposure to body fluids, radiation and communicable disease.  Majority of time is spent standing and / or walking short distances (60% of work time) with frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of up to 100 lb. Licenses/Certifications Required Current Certification as a Scrub Technologist prior to completion of departmental orientation and CPR Specific Educational and Skill Competencies Required Basic competency is expected to be attained within 4-8 months as evidenced by 85% achievement in all areas: Competency to maintain an orderly surgical field, preventing contamination of the field by the strict practice of aseptic technique; protects self, team members and environment by following universal precautions; participates in sponge, sharps, instrument counts as prescribed by departmental policy/procedure; is constantly alert to the safety of the patient;  is knowledgeable about surgical procedures and has the ability to anticipate surgeon's needs and to serve as surgical assistant as required.  This position requires the CST to receive and transfer  medications and other prescriptive items on the sterile field  (from a licensed nurse to a surgeon) under direct supervision by the surgeon and / or circulating RN.
