Description

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for reviewing provider documentation and charges to identify the optimal CPT4/HCPCS/ICD-10/ICD-9 CM code assignments. The areas of focus will be Primary Care, Specialty, Emergency and Urgent Care.

Job Functions

  • Applies appropriate ICD-9/CPT/and HCPCS codes according to specific coding guidelines to facilitate statistical reporting, report development, and the billing processes.

  • Reviews documentation to ensure it is complete and appropriate. Query provider for clarification if needed for purposes of coding, billing, or compliance.

  • Performs data entry of charge tickets in a timely manner.

  • Attends provider reviews and education sessions

  • Reviews and follows up on coding denials.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education/Work Experience

  • Certified Medical Coder (CCS-P or CPC or RHIT)
  • 2 years professional coding experience

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

  • Ability to work from home after meeting productivity/quality requirements

  • Knowledge of coding principals (ICD-10/ICD-9/CPT4/HCPCS)

  • Knowledge of Anatomy/Pathophysiology/Pharmacology/Surgical procedures

  • Knowledge of professional fee billing practices

  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to prioritize and organize responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

This role also performs claim submission and follow-up to third party payers, accurate posting of insurance and patient payments in a timely manner, as well as scanning of documentation to appropriate accounts, answering all inquiries, and providing customer service in the resolution of billing issues and account balances. Primary focus is in one of the following areas: payment posting, collections accounts receivable management and/or remittance reconciliation. Job Functions * Assures charge data entry is accurate. * Reviews clearinghouse transactions; reviews rejections for claim corrections, makes appropriate changes, and generates claim for submission or corrected claim. * Reviews aged accounts receivables, monitors, and works outstanding insurance claims. * Verifies charge interfaces are processing to appropriate accounts. * Assures the release of claims to third party payers. * Processes patient statements. * Assures payments are posted accurately and timely to patient accounts. * Answers inquiries regarding insurance and/or billing concerns and follow-up with peer source when needed. * Responds promptly to customer inquiries and problems. * Obtains and evaluates all relevant information to handle charge inquiries and problems. * Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers. * Maintains basic knowledge of insurance companies' policies and billing guidelines. * Performs other duties as assigned.
