Position description

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works collaboratively to improve the quality of patient care and promote desired patient outcomes in a designated Cardiac Surgical Population/specialty practice. The CNS functions as a leader within the three spheres of impact (Patient/Client, Nurses and Nursing Practice, Organization/System), and is an active participant in the nursing leadership team.

As a Mayo Clinic CNS in Rochester, MN you are a member of a team of 80 Clinical Nurse Specialists supporting nursing practice for almost 6,000 nurses working in over 60 specialty areas. Mayo Clinic CNSs collaborate with CNSs across a variety of Mayo Clinic locations including Phoenix/ Scottsdale, AZ, Jacksonville, FL, and Mayo Clinic Health System in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Mayo Clinic's multidisciplinary, team-oriented work environment presents opportunities that are rarely experienced elsewhere.

Qualifications

Master's Degree with a major in nursing with a Clinical Nurse Specialist focus. Five years of successful work experience in nursing with two years in the specialty area preferred.

Additional qualifications

Experience as a CNS preferred. Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient needs and CNS workload. Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree preferred.

License or certification

Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Current APRN, CNS license by applicable state requirements.

If state doesn't have APRN licensure, Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification, in designated specialty by a nationally recognized body deemed acceptable by the State Board of Nursing in the state the CNS practices or a documented waiver deemed acceptable by the Board of Nursing in the state the CNS practices, when there is no Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification examination for the specialty. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers), Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers), or Military Training Network. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3661.60, based on a full-time position.

The nurse manager 24/7 practice plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the operational, fiscal, and personnel activities within defined areas of practice to ensure the provision of quality patient care 24 hours a day. The individual contributes to the strategic planning process, and attainment of goals of the organization. The individual is responsible for one or more inpatient units based upon unit/area complexity and size of practice. The nurse manager 24/7 practice advocates for and allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. The nurse manager 24/7 practice is responsible for total work unit budget. The individual promotes shared decision making on the unit level. The nurse manager 24/7 practice acts as a resource and facilitates collaboration between nursing personnel and other health care disciplines throughout the organization and within the healthcare community. The nurse manager 24/7 is accountable for promoting ongoing development of all staff and for maintaining a professional environment in which all staff can grow and develop. Direct reports may include nurse supervisors of assigned inpatient units. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program and a Master's degree in Nursing, business or a health related field as approved by the Mayo Clinic Nurse Executive Committee. Will consider applicants meeting all other qualifications who commit to degree completion within six months from application date. Minimum of three years of nursing practice experience. Maintains ACLS and PALS per specific unit guidelines. Any additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
