Certified Athletic Trainers provide athletic training services for UVA Sports Camps during the summer and academic year. Candidates for these positions must be BOC-certified Athletic Trainers, licensed in the state of Virginia. First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications are also required.

The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia seeks to hire Certified Athletic Trainers to provide Sports Medicine coverage during various sports camps, which take place throughout the year.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Providing athletic training services to campers of all ages attending UVA sports camps

  • Evaluate and provide acute care for all sports camp injuries

  • Activate Emergency Action Plan for all emergencies within the camp setting

  • Documentation of all injuries to campers

  • Supervising First Aiders with on-field care of campers

  • Communicating with parents, First Aiders, Director of Sports Medicine, and coaches regarding all injuries and missed sessions for campers

  • Collecting and maintaining registration documents through the duration of camp

  • Providing water and ice to camps not included in the Gatorade Summer Camp Sports Program

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.

  • Experience: Some related experience in Sports Medicine is required. Undergraduate student experience will be accepted.

  • Licensure: Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification. First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications. Eligible for Athletic Trainer Licensure in the state of Virginia. Valid driver's license with the ability to submit a copy of driving record preferred.

Please Note: Hires will be selected based upon the listed qualifications, in addition to candidate availability for camp coverage. Preference for summer hires will be given to applications submitted by March 1, 2020. Housing is not available.

This Certified Athletic Trainer position is an hourly wage position intended for those candidates who have completed their undergraduate or entry-level Master's degree in a Sports Medicine program and are seeking experience in a clinical setting. The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing assistance to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses to student athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: assisting in the daily health care of student-athletes; recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for treatment given; interfacing with various internal and external personnel for referral purposes and information exchange; transporting student athletes to physician appointments; providing support in the administrative management of the Sports Medicine unit, including assisting in the coverage of sports camps; and other miscellaneous job related duties as deemed necessary by the Associate AD for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer.
