The Certified Anesthesia Technician works under the direction of the Department Administrator or designee in accordance with the legal scope of competency & within established standards of care, policies & procedures. Cleans, prepares for sterilization, assembles, stores & maintains equipment & supplies for the Anesthesia Department.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs daily maintenance & quality control of anesthesia machines. Performs quality control on anesthesia machines, tests for leaks, verifies anesthesia machine's function, & troubleshoots as necessary. Performs cleaning, sterilization & decontamination of all non-disposable anesthesia related items - anesthesia machines, scopes, tubing, etc. Inspects instruments & equipment for damage and initiates appropriate repair & replacement process. Completes & maintains monthly logs regarding maintenance & cleaning & quality checks of anesthesia equipment. Ensures availability of backup monitoring equipment at all times & provides timely replacement as needed.

  • Assembles basic anesthesia set up; performs anesthesia equipment turnover; verifies & sets-up agespecific equipment. Selects type of breathing circuits, bags, IV's - performs age-related assessment for anesthesia equipment needed.

  • Assists with patient transport to PACU/ICU including preparation of oxygen source & transport monitors. Coordinates patient monitoring & equipment availability with PACU & Critical Care Units. Assists with patient transport to the operating room, including placement of patient on the OR table & non-invasive monitors (NIBP, EKG, SpO2 temperature).

  • Assists in direct patient care under direct supervision in routine & emergency situations: arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan Ganz, cardiac output, fiber optic intubation & regional nerve block. Holds patients when patient is getting epidurals.

  • Appropriately set up room based on procedures.

  • Assembles Arterial Lines, Hotline (IV Fluid Warmer), Level One Rapid Infuser. Processes scopes. Assembles four different models of anesthesia machines. Prepares anesthesia procedure trays as requested. Meets annual competencies.

  • Assists with set-up of invasive monitoring equipment in routine & emergency situations: arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan-Ganz, cardiac output, fiber optic intubation & regional nerve block. Assists anesthesia provider with induction of anesthesia, including cricoid pressure for intubation as directed.

  • Provides supplies needed for general/regional anesthesia; keeps anesthesia equipment supplies stocked. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in anesthesia machines & carts, including rotation & replacement of dated items. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in emergency code blue boxes, malignant hyperthermia carts, difficult intubation carts, invasive monitoring carts, regional anesthesia carts as listed on cart inventory, pediatric carts, vascular carts, central venous carts, MRI carts, GI carts, Epidural Cart, Neuroblock cart. Coordinates with pharmacy to maintain stock, return & replace all outdated items except controlled drugs.

  • Interacts with patients' family members, external vendors when new product introduced.

  • Removes & disposes all supplies & equipment following procedures performed by anesthesia providers. Prepares & processes all anesthesia-related items that require disinfection, decontamination & sterilization. Coordinates with Environmental Services for prompt operating room turnaround time.

  • Coordinates with Unit Manager, if applicable, to maintain & revise inventory par levels for all supplies and equipment.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Graduate of an ASATT approved program in anesthesia technology with an AS degree, OR a minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Certified Anesthesia technician, OR a minimum of three (3) years' experience as an anesthesia technician with recent ASATT certification.


  • High school or General Education diploma.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Maintains a current American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) certification, which is required.
  • BLS required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Basic computer ability required.

  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs. from an overhead position.

  • Must be able to push/pull up to 500 lbs.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (mask, goggles, gloves, hat, gown).

  • Must be able to work with caustic cleaning solutions.Must be able to stand or walk continuously.

The CNAs hired will assist in providing a clean, safe, dignified, happy and healthy environment for residents.</p><p>Not only will these individuals have the requisite skill sets to perform the job, but a collaborative and warm personality that will fit well in a family-like environment committed to serving a common purpose.</p><p><strong>Job Responsibilities</strong></p><p>Complies with the facility’s attendance policy requiring regular, reliable, and punctual attendance</p><p>Prior to beginning of each shift, each CNA should receive communication report for their supervisor</p><p>Makes actual resident rounds, providing care, monitoring and observing the following at least three times per shift:</p><p>o Provision of pre-meal AM / PM care, consisting of oral hygiene, hand washing, toileting, bower and bladder retraining as indicated, F/C care and position as indicated, intake and output as required</p><p>o Proper positioning for all residents during meal time</p><p>o Assists residents with tray pass to ensure appropriate positioning, proper utensils, appropriate diet, placement of call light and assistance as indicated</p><p>o Provides appropriate meal substitutions as requested by resident</p><p>o Removes tray and observe/report/document percentage of meal taken</p><p>o Takes and monitors vital signs as indicated.</p><p>o Gathers equipment needed to provide bathing; e.g., shower gurney, poncho, shower chair, soaps, lotions, shampoos, ointments as indicated/ordered</p><p>o Assists in bathing or bed bath of residents as needed and/or per schedule</p><p>o Observes resident’s skin and documentations and reports skin conditions</p><p>o Responsible for Skin management that includes drying of skin and application of lotions, ointments, etc. as indicated</p><p>o Leaves resident room with call light accessible</p><p>o Transports residents to appropriate activity area for socialization and/or scheduled activities or area of resident preference</p><p>o Answers call light promptly.
